I chose that example because it's in the same genre as Woolly World, a genre that isn't scoring  as well this gen as last.

But Kirby lost marks for flaws that the Yoshi games seem to address, most notably the ridiculous ease of the game.  It only scored an 86.  And the genre scores plenty competently.  Shovel Knight has scores from 85-92 depending on the platform; Ori and the Blind Forest has an 88; NSMBU 84; Some scores are down, some are up, it's just the way of things.  And your sentiment is based on the assumption that the average 2D platform of this gen is equal to or greater than the average 2D platformer of last gen, something I am not necessarily comfortable with subscribing to wholesale.

That wasn't my implication. What I mean is that this gen there's a growing sentiment that 2D platformers are acceptable as indie titles, but not as full priced retail releases, and that this affects the scores they get.
