Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo "Amiibos Surpassed Expectations and Aims to Smash Stock Problems"

Welcome to the Realm of Video Games

Its no secret that Nintendo's amiibos has been massively popular since laungh, but sadly for those of us trying to get out hands on all these little figurines has been left disapointed with a low amount of stock in store and outrageous prices by scalpers.  Head of Nintendo Consumer Marketing, James Honeywell spoke to MCV about these issues and this is what he had to say.

“Right from the outset we hoped that amiibo would be strong, but even our expectations have been smashed. With a unique line-up of iconic characters that are loved by so many people, it really has been unprecedented.”

“We hope to do a better job of satisfying these needs in the future with more stock, and, while there are always going to be some times when we can't on certain characters, I suspect that is also part of the appeal.

What we hadn't anticipated was the number of collectors wanting to get them all – this has seen demand exceed supply in some areas. Although, if you search around, you can still find some of the more hard-to-find Amiibo sitting on shelves.”

“From what we've seen the core audience for amiibo at the moment are our older fanbase who have the love and disposable income to get in first, but increasingly with the launch of new amiibo compatible titles like Mario Party 10 with the Super Mario Classic range and upcoming titles like Splatoon, we are now starting to see younger fans buying into the unique gaming experiences on offer. We hope this will continue to grow throughout the year and will culminate at peak with lots of kids asking for their own amiibo. They really are the perfect stocking-fillers.

Does this ease your tension on getting the newest amiibos in stores?  Honeywell went on to speak about more including competition like Skylanders.  Click the source to read more

I really have no idea how this could ever become this popular but I'm glad they found a good source for income to help them through these past six months or so.

Great to hear!

Now I'm just praying that they'll restock Captain Falcon.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Makes me less worried considering the wave coming out tomorrow will probably be gone before I'm awake. They better do restocks cause I refuse to pay scalpers

Best case scenario for Nintendo/Amiibo.

well in UK they go sold out on line as soon as up. not even 10 minutes on sales!

Switch!!!

Though a short supply on Nintendo's end is definitely at the root of the problem, the sheer number of scalpers hoarding Amiibo is exacerbating it to ridiculousness.

What is wrong with consumers? They need to stick to their guns and refuse to pay a 2-6x markup on items that literally came out a day before. Stop feeding the scalpers.

It's not the consumers fault, its Nintendos.  If Nintendo would just sell each of them with a healthy amount and not making any store exclusives then consumers would never have to turn to scalpers.....ever again.

I live in Canada, I can't get a Rosalina because it was exclusive to Target that's only in the US so what would be my option then? Screw Nintendo. I have a couple of amiibos (20?) but this is getting ridiculous to the point that Im slowly not caring about getting more amiibos in the future because it's exhausting fighting to find the rare ones simply because Nintendo chooses to make low stock.

It's sad to see how nintendo fans decided to support this DLC practice, the same that the last gen was pointed as a devil's work.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever
