Forums - Gaming Discussion - 7th Gen was the worst Console Gen ever: My opinion/Rant

I'd ljke to agree with 7th sucking - as someone who gamed constantly from early NES days, 7th gen's focus on FPS (among other things) made my interest drift to other hobbies. It improved, thankfully, which is why I'm back into it now with 8th.

I disagree completely. 7th gen was definitely the best gen as of yet. Too many amazing games to even consider it the worst.

The PC on the other hand doesnt get any exclusives anymore its a fact, at least when we talk about AAA games and not free to play or indie games. And even the ps4 gets indie exclusives or free to play exclusives like Deep Down by the way.

In the 7th generation i played on the PC because of exclusives like Crysis and Starcraft 2 who are true AAA exclsuives for the platform only possible on the more powerfull hardware. But this generation there is no point owning a pc for me if youre interrested in playing a lot of different games. Because the pc has the least amount of AAA games. I am massivley disspointed about blizzard, one of my favorite companies in what direction they are going. Instead making a warcraft 4 they rather make free to play games like hearthstone or overwatch, or what ever that shooter was called..... Blizzard is pretty much dead for me and this was a huge reason why i am switching now back to consoles. Because all the pc games who are avaible now are also on console, we even get those indie and free to play stuff. RTS games are also dead now and get replaced with DOTA games who i couldnt care less about.

So i dont understand why people advice switching to PC for the console gamers if the PC gets no exclusives whats so ever but the couple AAAs who are left. Yes they run better but the fact is still you get a lot less AAA games. And let me be clear, if i would count this generation as a whole and count the PC into it then yes it would be the worst for me, but when it comes to consoles only, then yes they are certaintly better than last gen for me. At least with consoles in this generation i can look up to and be excited about the exclusives they may can get. What can i be excited for from Blizzard these days, or Valve?

That's not true. Sid Meier's Starships, Age of Wonders III, Star Citizen, Pillars of Eternity, the whole Total War series just to name a few tiles exclusive to PC which ain't exactly Indie Titles. Just because they aren't made from EA/Ubisoft/Activision doesn't mean they are Indies (I know, Star Citizen and Pillars of Eternity technically are Indies, but their budget, execution and graphics goes well above your typical Indie title and even above some AAA productions).

That said, I do also feel that this generation is better than the last one, for which I really couldn't care less exept for the Wii. PS360 where for me just massively underpowered PC with unappealing exclusives. PS4/Xbox ONE are a quite bit more appealing with their exclusives. Too bad consoles will stay as underpowered PCs as they just can't keep up with the brute force of a PC and it's largely bigger TDP allowances (for camparision: a whole consoles can come up to 160-180W nowadays, which is less than just your typical high-end graphics card on a PC)

No. It was very great and succesful. This gen is boring and lame.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

The 7th gen is a little fuzzy to me because I went on my gaming hiatus at the beginning of it, and only got back into it in like 2010-2011. From what I played, it was pretty good but I can't really say anything about the gen as a whole because I didn't experience it.

So far with the 8th gen, I'm really enjoying it but I feel like it lacks an identity (notably because of very little good new IPs). I hope this is rectified, but I'm just gonna wait until the end of the gen to officially say whether it's better or worse than last gen.

From 2006 through 2009 was great, the rest of them aren't.

Mediocre sequels, remasters, crap new IP (The Order, Ryse, Knack..... ... .. .), more sequels, and yet more sequels - that is this gen so far in a nutshell.

This.

At this point last gen we had exciting new IP like Bioshock, Wii Sports, Uncharted, Gears of War, Assassin's Creed...

I thought the 7th gen had some great moments. First of all, the leap to HD was huge. Second of all, several brilliant new IPs. Thirdly, the widespread implementation of online gaming (this is more hit and miss, but overall I like it).

Finally, the most important part of 7th gen (for me) was the competition. I want console sales to be neck and neck, and I don't think I'm alone in this either. Competition is good for the business.

#1 Amb-ass-ador

What can I say, the 7th generation was technically my first true gen, so of course I like it.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Compared to the sixth gen, the seventh gen was magical. Compared to the seventh gen, the eighth gen is...men. I'll be patient but it just feels like a reboot to me.
