Hmmmm. I personally think a more appropriate question for the home console market is, can Nintendo survive (in their current form) if they don't make a come back?

On GC level yes. If they keep declining, no.

I don't think HH are doomed for the record.

No I think Nintendo will adapt to keep HH relevant.

My question is purely from a home console market. We all know they can't afford another Wii U. However, it also really depresses me that people won't buy a Wii U for the games it now has.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

More and more kids are growing up without Mario and Link, it's a shame really.

But also, I can see why people won't buy one when it only has about seven must-have titles on it, and there's only one big game coming out this year as well and it's one that no-one cared about until SSB4.

Probably. Sony of course, MS I dunno. If they're last place next gen and the market doesn't provide them profit, I think they might get out of gaming business.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

With no 3rd parties there is no chance for comeback, the 3rd parties want nothing to do with nintendo. So a comeback has no chance of happening.

If by some miracle it happened, MS would drop out.

I did not notice you double posted the topic, so I answered in the other one. Here it is again:

Nintendo will never make a comeback, because the two "major" consoles are now PS and XBox, and third party publishers will never be inclined to return to Nintendo, as it has shown that it cannot sell consoles just based on its first-party games.
Nintendo is a company stuck in the 20th century, making games stuck in the 20th century, and people are not interested in those games anymore, as can be seen by the WiiU results.
Its next console, the announced NX will probably sell even worse, and will mark Nintendo's exit from home console market. That is why it was very wise of them to make a push towards mobile games, as that is where they should seek their fortune in the future.
I truly believe their home console existence is approaching the end very soon.

That couldn't be more correct. Bullseye, that's the point. However, I do believe they can survive in a more niche position (in home consoles, not talking about portables here).

I disagree. People clearly are interested in these games, which is why they sell millions when they come out. Unfortunately, there is no reason to buy a Wii U unless you are interested in these games, which is why the attachment rate is so high.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

Wait, then why do Nintendo's games outsell those of Sony and Microsoft?

How many ten million sellers does Sony or MS have?

Nintendo has had 24 ten million + sellers in the 21th century.

Not everyone wants to play games like mario or zelda, a lot of people rather look for more mature looking exclusives. So nintendo getting third parties doesnt gurrentee dominance, see the gamecube.

"Not everyone wants to play games like mario or zelda, a lot of people rather look for more mature looking exclusives."

1. Nintendo has much more than mario and zelda.

2. Debates on what "mature looking" means aside, wouldn't a nintendo system with 3rd parties get those anyway?

"So nintendo getting third parties doesnt gurrentee dominance, see the gamecube."

I can't believe you wrote that. The gamecube didn't "get third parties". It sure had considerably more than N64, but still missed on the most important 3rd party games of the gen. And check the market context first: The gamecube released when ps2 had already established itself. From there won, it was impossible to gain enough ground.

A nintendo system that gets fair treatment from third parties would force sony and ms out after one generation or 2 because it would have nintendo exclusives + 99% of the competitors library.

Yes the gamecube got almost all segnificant third parties, it was nintendos most exposed console to third parties since the n64, so it should have immideatly dominate according to OP? But it didnt

Because if you own a Nintendo console, you only have about 24 games in total to choose from. PS and XBox owners have many many more games to choose from, so the individual games get their sales spread out between hundreds of titles.

If you bothered to check, you would easily have seen that even though Wii sold the most consoles, it is dead last in software sales.

So you're saying people actually buy a whole console just to play Nintendo games? You just said no one was interested in Nintendo games anymore. But now you're saying that not only are people interested in the games, they're willing to buy a whole console to play nothing but those games.

By the way, the answer was two. Sony only had 2 10 million sellers in the 21th century. Compared to 24 of Nintendo. 24.
