3DS seems to be dying.
| Mummelmann said: Everything down, back to business (or lack thereof) as usual in Japan. N3DS seems not be the savior of the 3DS even in the strongest region for handhelds (by far), just a matter of time before it plummets globally after the initial wave of news value settles. PS4 headed down as well, I think it could settle on weekly figures in the 10-12k region if things go fairly well, under 10k if they don't, PS3 still duking it out with the Wii U. Vita headed down as well. Man, Japanese console sales are depressing as hell. |
You could be right or badly wrong!Japan is might be the strongest region for handhelds but 3ds has reached almost 19m there,it's at 14m in Europe and almost at 15m in the USA which means that in these places(Which are way bigger markets with greater potential)there is quite bigger room to grow further than in Japan...Using Japan as an indicator for the west has never worked!Also,lets not forget how much new 3ds announcement in 2014 for Japan terribly affected the sales in the west,it speeded up dramatically the decline,so there were many people who waited New 3ds and will probably buy it this year...
it's too early too doom it while there hasn't been any big game release just for it...
Those who ever present new 3ds as 3ds savior(like me in a way) they are saying it just for Europe and the USA(Where as I aforesaid,there is quite more space for extra growth)3DS wasn't needing a savior in Japan,since it's ahead gba by 2m...
Media create comparison 3DS 2011->|28.252 2012->63.796 2013->46.723 2014-> 23.562 2015->26.841
So it was yoy up by 3k for the last week.
Anyway,New 3ds is doing its job for Japan,flat weeks/yoy up weeks or to be clear selling to some new/late adopters but mainly selling to the existing 3DS owners as the adressable market maybe is nearly reached in Japan...
Horrible week across the board. PS4 should start going down to its baseline which I think will be around 12-13k. Hopefully it stays up and keeps the market healthy

Still number 1 console this week. It's slowing down of course as it crawls to 20m which historically is the saturation point in Japan for top consoles bar the two freaks that were the gameboy (due to its revival 10 years after release with Pokemon) and DS (a once in a lifetime occurance when touch screen games went berserk).
That said, it has some good releases from now till the summer which should boost sales starting with Girls Mode this week which will have massive legs.

A console up year on year during the 5th year of life... that outsell all other console...
Yep, seem to be dying.

Things getting back to normal after the flood of games that PS4 got... 3DS on top, Vita almost 2nd.
Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Vita IS second.
PSV + PSV TV: 18,028
PS4: 17,885

I'm surprised by how low software sales are overall. 20k for #1? I haven't checked a media create thread in a while.
