Forums - PC - Is the mouse your favorite gaming controller?

The best controller of all time is the keyboard. Its great for games like Zork and A Mind Forever Voyaging.

Thats's how I beat the first halo, then I got the console version and tried to play it.... it wasn't as good and the keyboard and mouse.

doesn't MetroidP3 use auto aim though?

No. The lock-on is for missiles and camera control. It's entirely possible to lock on to one target and blast away another one.

That's still not the same as the computer fps's, you don't get the camera centered on the enemy, you gotta stay on him yourself.

Why should it be the same? You can play the whole game without using it at all, if you like. Personally, I like the distinction between camera control and gun control. Most PC FPSes link the two directly together, as if the bullets were actually coming out of your eyes.

You could easily implement the same feature in a PC shooter by binding lock-on to the shift key, or something. Would feel a little strange for breaking the mouselook world that PC shooters have been tied to for a decade now, but it opens up some interesting gameplay possibilities.

I think the mouse is the best gaming controller ever, it's easy to move, lets your hands not be clumped together like a system controller(besides wii that is) and it is very accurate if you're using an optical mouse(the balled ones are weird, they get messed up after a while.)

Anyway, the keyboard and mouse is the best way to play games I think.

I would say yes and no. it is great for an RTS (the best in my opinion) and pretty good for a FPS, but for racing i would def choose the 360 controller or a steering wheel. and to 68 soul, the wiimote isnt the future, unless you meann the futre of 8 year olds and shovelware inc (aka Ubisoft)

Topic title: Is the mouse your favorite gaming controller?  A controller is not the game.  A controller is the thing you operate the game with.

OT: Personally, I prefer the Wii-mote, because it makes gaming fresh.  The N64 pad and the 360 tie for second.

How I feel. I also perfer it for turn based Strategy games though. Probably SRPGs too but I don't really know of any computer SRPGs that i can think of. Which is odd to me.

If anyone knows of any good ones... or even medicore ones.  Let me know.

RTS and FPS only. The rest SNES or PS.

And it takes even more skill to play a FPS using dual analog because dual analog sucks for FPS. I actually find it harder though to have a visual camera that isn't tied to the crosshairs.

In a fairly simple FPS game that doesn't need many mapped keys, the wiimote plays better if you ask me... just because the nunchuck is a lot less awkward then the keyboard when it comes to things like strafing and makes things liked diagonal strafing a LOT easier... the percision issue is likely more due to having less practice or treating the wiimote like a lightgun zapper instead a different form of mouse imput.
