I know what you mean, but imagine a legend of zelda trailer where Link is basically legolas, that's cool for the mainstream market. I think that Nintendo has a lot of cool stuff, but the portrayal is not so cool. A new AAA IP  would help too, but again, the portrayal is what matters for the hype.

Link never should, or will be like Legolas, though. Link doesn't need to be cool for the mainstream market. If they want something like that, they need to make make something new, rather than change something old into something it doesn't naturally evolve into.

but on the teaser trailer for zelda wii u he was cool, in fact, cooler than ever. I don't know what's your definition of cool, but for me, this is:

and the legolas thing was not literal, anyway if you don't agree, let's agree to disagree.

Huh, I didn't know Disney was considered cool in the gaming industry. I havn't played one of their games since forever but I do agree that Nintendo needs to hire a marketing team that doesn't suck and not use Comic Sans on anything anymore

Disney owns Marvel, therefore Disney owns Ironman, therefore Disney owns Robert Downey Junior, therefore Disney is cool.

I could swear those Ironman/skylanders games were shit...

Outside of a few IP how do u expect Nintendo to make their games "cool"? How do they make Kirby, Yoshi, Mario Party, Captain Toad, Donkey Kong appeal to the mainstream crowd?

They can't and they shouldn't.

What they have already pleases their audience, to a reasonable extent. When Disney wanted to appeal to a different audience, they didn't change Mickey or Cinderella to make them "cool," they bought Marvel, bought Star Wars, and made PotC. When square wanted to appeal to a different audience, they didn't change Final Fanta- well they did, and it fucked them over, but then they made/bought Eidos and bought Tomb Raider, Theif, Hitman, and Deus Ex.

Nintendo shouldn't make their games cool; Nintendo should make cool games.

My definition of cool doesn't matter. I think Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. Wii U are cool. I think that Bayonetta 2 is cool. I think that XCX is super cool. I'm talking about the mainstream definition of cool, which is more specific than mine, and not particular to things with lots of primary colors or boys with girl faces, like what's in that trailer.

can't argue with this level of coolness

All substance no style.

I agree. Ever since the Genesis beat the SNES in the US, Nintendo has lost it's "cool" reputation. Since then, it's been Sega, Sony and then Microsoft which has carried the "cool" banner.

I guess they just don't care. Either that, or don't know HOW to be cool in the west. Maybe they should (as I've proposed many times) put more faith in their NOA branch and let them do whatever they want within reason.

This is why I love this forum, people twist your words just to argue,

Nintendo needs to build crowd hype videos. Like the ones that Sony did around the launch of the PS4. People standing in line cheering Nintendo? Interview people saying that all their friends they know own Wii U. Then spam the heck out of that commercial until people are convinced that they must have that system.

Then do the same thing with the games. They need a serious montage of their lineup. Stuff that gets people excited. I can't recall the last time I saw Nintendo release a montage commercial. Stuff like that lands in the cool category and makes you feel like you need to have that system too.
