Forums - Nintendo - Are Mario RPG games any good?

I'm pretty sure a LOT of people can agree that Mario RPGs are good, whether they like Paper Mario or Mario & Luigi.

I'd say yes. The Paper Mario games are all pretty good (even Sticker Star is at least decent), Super Mario RPG is really enjoyable and the handheld RPGs are also great experiences.

Crazy good.

Super Mario RPG is classic Final Fantasy meets Mario, it even sounds awesome.

Paper Mario and especially TTYD are great turn based games, some of the best in gaming.

Super Paper Mario is a "platforming RPG", seems odd at first, but it has the best story of any Mario game. Ever. (and trust me, it's amazing)

Sticker Star is average.

Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story are both pretty epic.

Dream Team is also good.

Partners in Time is above average, it's worth your time but it's not as good as the others.

All but sticker star are great games, sticker star isn't a bad game, it's just not is the same vein and should have been a spin off entirely.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

The original Paper Mario and the GC sequels are really great! I highly recommend you play the N64 version on its original system because there is a frame rate drop on the Wii VC. if you play using a crtv or the wii u gamepad screen, the frame rate should improve.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door are some of the best games I've ever played.

I strongly recommend them.

pretty much this. My favorite of the mario rpg series. Also don't forget the first Paper Mario. Its available on the Wii eshop and later the Wii U eshop.

Thanks for the suggestions, guise. I'm not particularly interested in the old titles right now because I'd have to buy them digitally, and that's a big no for me. I believe I'll buy Dream Team because it looks like the best of the bunch. I'll probably pass on Sticker Star because everybody agrees it's weak. I'll wait for Paper Mario U!

The graphics turned you off? Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars is easily one of the best looking SNES games, all the characters and environments are gorgeously detailed and animated. It also has an epic soundrack, and the hybrid platform / RPG mechanics are spot on. You definitely need to play this game.

I love Paper Mario as well but I always felt it was a step back in the gameplay department... it was too easy for my tastes. The Thousand Year Door expanded on the gameplay and the visuals are outstanding.

The handheld Mario & Luigi games are mixed bag for me though, never got into the series as a whole.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Worth buying this game. Great game

Those games look good for what they are, but since there's no nostalgia attached to those games, I don't think they've aged that well. I have a GC, too bad I don't own TTYD because it looks good.

Everybody's been recommending Superstar Saga, I'll look out for that one. I'll try to watch some videos.
