Forums - Nintendo - Are Mario RPG games any good?

I've always been a big Mario fan. I've played every major game except for Super Mario Sunshine.

I'm also an RPG fan. I like Pokémon/Final Fantasy/Fire Emblem etc and I love MMORPG's.

But... Mario RPG games have never appealed to me. I remember trying to play them on my PS2 (yes, I used emulators) and the graphics would turn me off completely.

I hear they're great, but are they worth buying? Do you guys like the graphics? On the one hand, I feel like my 3DS collection is incomplete without them (Dream Team and Sticker Star), so I think I should buy them just for the sake of buying them. On the other hand, I've never played any MRPG and I'm afraid I would waste money on games I'll never fully enjoy.

What are your thoughts?

You need to play the Paper Mario series. Now. It's so good (bar Sticker Star, which I've heard isn't great but I haven't tried it myself).

That's what keeps me from playing Sticker Star. I got it from Club Nintendo a couple months ago, but I didn't touch it because I hate digital games, so I thought of buying a hard copy to encourage me.

They are all very good except Sticker Star and Partners in time.

If you're interested in Nintendo content and understand german, maybe you want to take a look at my youtube channel! :)

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door are some of the best games I've ever played.

I strongly recommend them.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I've seen physical copies go for under $10, so if you're that interested I say go for it. Just keep in mind that it's unlike the other entries in that it doesn't focus on the characters and dialogue as much, and there aren't huge worlds but smaller, bite-size levels that fit for a handheld. It also doesn't have a conventional battle system.

The original Paper Mario will be launching on the Wii U VC this month for $10, and I fully recommend that.

Yes. I especially like the Mario & Luigi games. They are set in their own worlds, filled with humor and specific characters. I especially enjoyed Bowser's inside story. But maybe you should start with Superstar Saga for GBA on WiiU virtual console. If you've got some leftover stars from Cluub Nintendo, I think it's only 1800 stars in the stars caralogue.

I played all Paper Mario games except Sticker Star and they were all amazing. Super Mario RPG was ok didn't like it that much. The Mario and Luigi RPG games are great too, I've played SuperStar Saga and one of the DS ones a while back. Paper Mario is the best imo :)

They are actually amazing. Especially the paper mario games. (Although sticker star isn't as good as it's predecesors)

The thousand year door is my favorite rpg of all time
