I've seen physical copies go for under $10, so if you're that interested I say go for it. Just keep in mind that it's unlike the other entries in that it doesn't focus on the characters and dialogue as much, and there aren't huge worlds but smaller, bite-size levels that fit for a handheld. It also doesn't have a conventional battle system.
The original Paper Mario will be launching on the Wii U VC this month for $10, and I fully recommend that.
