Forums - Sony - Should Sony have pushed PS3 exclusives to PS4?

But into the nexus is on vita.....

Nope, it's currently only on the PS3. I think they had a Vita version planned, but cancelled it.

OT: Some of them should definitely have stayed as PS3 titles (long-term exclusive support has always been a big selling point of PlayStation), but others, like GT6 and B2S, would have worked well as PS4 launch titles. They're both already pushing the PS3 to its absolute limits; it wouldn't have taken much to get them to early PS4 standards. Puppeteer might also have been a good idea, if only because it was so heavily overshadowed on the PS3.

Nope , because they should have pushed them to the Vita :)

Although they would have sold great on PS4 (similar if not a tad more then PS3), hardware wise PS4 sold close its roof of what sony could ship, these titles wouldn't of had a made huge difference in demand. Giving the Vita those titles would have garnered far more revenue fom sony as hardware sales would have probably doubled that holiday for the systems and during Q1/2 period where GOW would have launched. That would also mean general higher software revenue for the Vita due to the influx of new customers.

What should have been on PSV:
GT6 (with a different name)
Ratchet Nexus
God of War: Ascension
Puppeteer

PS3:
The Last of Us
Beyond Two Souls

PS3 was swarming with 3rd party support, it didn't need any exclusives to keep the selling that late in the game and all of the above titles that should have launched on PSV had already established an audience on the PS3 with far more successful predecessors hence why they didn't shift many systems on release in 2013.

Many argue that it was actually GT5 that damaged the series. Its protracted development time and delays were made even worse by the fact that when it did eventually come out, it's competitors(namely Forza) had surpassed it in many areas and even contained features that Gran Turismo did not have.

Agreed.  GT5 started the decay of the franchise.

Polyphony lost a great opportunity to use the time they had and work on the issues of the game.

If they use updated GT4 car models in GT7 like they did with 5 and 6 they better be prepared for a bloodbath in the reviews. We don't need 60 models of the R34 GTR Skyline, we don't need 1,000 cars(of which half of them no one cares for). Give us 300-400 premium cars from all over the world and the vast majority of gamers will be over the moon.

while it does not help the PS4 I think Sony creates a lot of goodwill by providing support to consoles. Nintendo is really bad about delaying a game promised for a console to be a killer app for a new console launch (if ZeldaWiiU becomes Zelda Nex I will take a facking sledhammer to my WiiU.)

add me, the more the merrier.

I think ending the PS3's final non-PS4 year with a bang was a good decision, as it cemented the idea that, even if titles in the first year were slow to arrive (and, I might be wrong, but isn't there generally a drought during the early year or two of a console?) the games would be coming "because lookit how good they were with the PS3 after it built up steam!"

Just cutting off the PS3 owners a year early would have left some wary, (certainly, I would have been,) about how long before Sony's next 'generation leap' they would cut PS4 exclusive support in order to save all the games for the PS5. =P

lol.. seriously? are people honestly this whiney? Anyone that has a history of buying Sony consoles knows that the games will come. There's a reason why those games were released last gen and not this gen. This gen will have its share of games when all is said and done. it's like people are so damm ADD towards everything now and nobody has any more patience.

Man.. I hate it when your girl has to leave my place to come back to you..

No, the PS4 sold like free bread anyway.

GT6 and Puppeteer for completely different reasons

GT6 because it's your biggest exclusive and if it released in early Summer they could have sold even more.

Puppeteer because it could have stuck out and had more success as the awesome game it was in a launch lineup rather than launching beside GTA5 and getting forgotten (so sad my favorite platformer of last gen)

Imagine if they had saved TLoU as a launch title...

I am Iron Man

I was expecting MS to have lots of exclusives because they hardly released any games during the end of last gen, but it seems I was wrong.

Some people have complained that the PS4 had to few first party exclusives when it launched in November 2013.

Should Sony have left their old console with only one exclusive instead of releasing God of War: Ascension, The Last of Us, Puppeteer, Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, Beyond: Two Souls and Gran Turismo 6 on PS3?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_game_exclusives_(eighth_generation)

Why though? Because a "Vocal" Minority is complaining? Let the sales speak for themselves. If they waited till PS4, consumer confidence in PS would drop and they would loose a ton of money for a hypothetical future gain with the PS4? Except it was effectively out of stock till like April and much later Non-US, more games would've only made them individually sell less.

Not to mention many publishers were banking on the One at the start of this gen, if Sony abandoned the PS3 early to get ready for PS4 whose to say it wouldn't be in the same toxic situation as the Wii U?

Seriously, not a lot of thought goes into these "complaints"

I honestly don't get this kind of comments. So, you think that just because you disagree, people don't know what they're talking about or haven't given in much thought? I find that very rude.

The OP listed many games that could have been released on ps4. Releasing some of them on ps4 and some on ps3 would have been ample support for both of them.  The ps4 has not been out of stock for more than a year. A GT and a God of War could have created more buzz for ps4 and not only could it have sold better the past year, xb1 could have had much lower sales. The lack of games enabled MS to beat ps4 in America for at least two months and to become a true competitor there.

That's because I was responding to the majority of complaints which go like:

"PS4 has no games"

As for your argument, we are talking about Hypotheticals. Its safe to assume Sony wants all of their products to sell decently. Again, PS4 only lost 2 months last year with its unbloated line up and to attribute November and December to "lack of games" is disingenous, more games might drive up the value to the individual Niches that like those games versus a much lower price point in the holidays? Please.

But really the problem is that your argument, and I mean those arguing for more games on PS4 from PS3 is that it fails to consider the effects of the PS3, the games themselves, and the developers just for the benefit of a PS4 that has shown it doesn't need it. And why? To beat the XB1 more? How likely is it for Sony to care about that? Hint: It was easier for them to lower prices then move some exclusives, but they didn't do that either.
