Forums - Sony - Should Sony have pushed PS3 exclusives to PS4?

It's fine like it is. We just got Infamous SS, Driveclub and Bloodborne which are awesome. And so many great multiplatform games are coming out which will help before getting new Exclusive Games. Any Generation need all the possible help from 1st Party Devs, so all those exclusive games were fine for PS3.

Hmmm those games were released on a platform that had something like 80 million userbase at the time, so I think that if that had been pushed onto the PS4, the software sales would have been worse for each title. GT6 is an anomaly though because each iteration is heavily hyped so there is no doubt that should have been pushed for PS4 but chances are it would still have needed a 5 year development cycle regardless.... GT6 came out 3 years after the 5th one because it used the same engine. This would not have been the case for a PS4 version. I don't even think we will see GT7 until 2017....

I would have hated it if they did that. But I think they should have ported even more of those games to PS4.

Yup...RO friggin rocked

The PS2 was successful because Sony always support their older machine, the PS3 was successful because Sony always support their older machine, the PS4 is successful because Sony always support their older machine and Sony are successful because console fans know that Sony always support their older machines. In short: No, Sony should continue to do what makes them the market leader.

The PS5 Exists.

I only agree about GT6. It should have a PS4 game, not a launch title but at least announced with the console.

GT6 damaged the series imo.

It certainly made more business sense to release those games on the PS3. If the launch lineup or the current library were lacking, then they're only considered as such by the reception and not the 2013 version of Sony who made the decision to continue supporting their previous console.

Ratchet and Clank should have been a PS4 launch title. Not really sure how much Ratchet and Clank would help sell the PS4, but at least the PS4 would help sell Ratchet and Clank, and it really deserves more sales.

Goddamn, 2013 was a really great year for the PS3 in terms of exusives.

Puppeteer and God of War should have been Vita games. GT6 and beyond cross gen. IMO. But they weren't and were never announced as such so its fine.

Many argue that it was actually GT5 that damaged the series. Its protracted development time and delays were made even worse by the fact that when it did eventually come out, it's competitors(namely Forza) had surpassed it in many areas and even contained features that Gran Turismo did not have.

That's arguable. Some of them may have fared better as PS4 exclusives. Games like Beyond or Pupeteer would have got more interest that way while as PS3 exclusives they were kind of overlooked. Also Gran Turismo 6 would have done better as a cross gen game. It would have given the PS4 a good racing game and it looks like being last gen only after the PS4 released damaged its sales potential.

Sony wanted to capitalize on the already existing fanbase and show that they were still developing and bringing games for it. That much is well known. However they didn't expect the PS4 to be this successful and that played a huge part in making their decisions.

One thing is for sure though: The Last of Us did it right.
