Sorry, it's a little confusing but I don't mean a direct successor to the Wii. In fact I think they should drop the Wii brand (I'll edit the OP with that).

The reason they would want to replace the handheld and not the console is because they would want to keep the handheld momentum going... Their handheld division is their only successful division atm and letting that die in terms of sales before releasing another one would spell disaster for them. The wiiU is up YoY so it is still selling and it will continue to sell its software and there have been games announced for it. The wiiU does not look like its at the end of its console cycle from a games release perspective but the 3ds does hence why I think the NX will be a handheld and not a console

Nintendo needed to announce the codename of a console to make all this madness. Zelda gets delayed, and the conspiracy theorists appear.

You know what? Fuck it. The NX is releasing this year. It's 60x more powerful than the PS4, at $199. Every Wii U game delayed to get ported to it. My dad works at Nintendo!!!!



Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

It's not baseless:

- Nintendo has recently acknowledged the Wii U has failed to even remotely meet sales expectations

- Zelda being delayed massively, just like Twilight Princess was. If Zelda was going to be shown at E3, then you may have had a point but it's not

- Quality of Life also being announced

- And of course, Project NX mentioned

It's not random guessing.

Why would they buy the next console so if Nintendo shows they don't care about the people who believed in their past product, why would they care now? If it don't meet expectations again they'll kill it again lile the Wii U.

I disagree. Putting Zelda on the Wii U isn't even a gamble at this point. It's futile. It's best to drop Star Fox on the Wii U then totally move on to the NX.

What is a gimmick?
Because you could consider the control stick a gimmick in the 64 era. Or the L and R buttons in the SNES. Or you dont consider those gimmicks because the other companies approved them?

But the console doesn't revolve around those things. They're just features, not what makes the PS4 what it is.

On the other hand, the Gamepad and 3D are what Nintendo wanted to make those consoles special (the gimmicks), and we see how that turned out.
