Forums - Gaming - Is the XBO version of FFXV a mistake?

I don't think that it will lower sales, so no.

PS4 one runs rather poorly too in my opinion. Hope the final version is smoothed out. The dips in battle are unbearable.

FFXV will be the best-selling JRPG on the XBone (mostly due to the lack of comptition on the system from other JRPGs). But that will be it. It would have been more succesfull porting the game to the Vita or the WiiU, even if downgraded.

Hmmm, I'm not as sure of that as you are. If Square Enix is smart and releases the KH Collection on XB1 before KH3 releases (they are considering it), I could possibly see KH3 topping it. Xbox One is a holiday heavy seller, so I'm sure that alot of Xbox One's sold during the Holiday season are parents buying for their kids. Parents see Disney characters on a game case when they're picking up that XB1 for their kids, there's a good chance they'll grab it imo.

Maybe so, but Final Fantasy is a stronger brand than KH. Maybe for a lot of people FFXV will be the first JRPG that they play.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Come join The 2018 Obscure Game Monthly Review Thread.

If the final game is well received ( which is very, very likely considering the general reaction to the demo ) I think the game will sell enough to be considered a successful investment. I think it will sell 1.5M at least on XOne.

On the other hand, we will never know how the game would have benefited from the exclusivity in term of sales due to hype and a possible extensive marketing push from Sony.

Keep in mind that supporting both consoles is a long term investment. SE want to expand the fanbase for future titles as well. For example, look at how Skyrim sold on both consoles. Every company want that.

I think xbox fans should seriously worry that jrpgs go completly away from their consoles. You should buy type-0 and support it, its a good deal for the money

Initial hype would cause it to sell well on one platform, but it never happened. The development and contract were dragged out. Now that everyone knows it is multiplatform it will sell pretty well on both consoles. I looked at my friends list the other day and it was packed with people playing the demo.

You are forgetting that Kingdom Hearts is a stronger brand than Final Fantasy in NA. That is the strongest region for Xbox.

Wow, the self congratulatory posts in this thread. No problem with an X1 version. Xbox needs the variety, not as if they have good Japanese support and it will sell enough to justify the port from PS4.

I've actually noticed the XB1 version of KH3 is requently ranked higher than the XB1 version of FFXV on Amazon, despite the fact that FFXV is expected to release sooner. The XB1 version of KH3 even made it up to #4 on Amazon one day when Amazon discounted preorders for KH3 down to $42 (the PS4 version was at #1).

And it went out of the top 100 before the PS4 version left the top 5.
