Forums - Gaming - Sony and Nintendo need to announce something big at E3

Sony has plenty of ammunition left. They've learned from the past and have been in no rush to reveal games that are still deep in development. That situation is further strengthened by the success of the PS4, allowing them to be conservative with their approach. I doubt they even lay all their cards on the table at E3.

A drag for short-term excitement but smart with the long-term in mind.

Nintendo's position is less advantageous. Zelda is the only big gun that we can count on, though I think there is still a chance of a Mario Galaxy type title, which could be huge. It all depends on when/if they decided to stop developing major titles for the Wii U and cut their losses. Neither Starfox nor Metroid would do much for them in the overall market.

It might be Microsoft's year in terms of big games. Still, though, it's not that big of a deal either way; as Microsoft has said in the past, this is a marathon, not a sprint.

You make a good point but Sony is always better at the marathon and Microsoft is always better at the sprint (in this case it backfired because all those games arent winning them the popularity contest right now. Track record has proven this. Micrsoft is better at getting short term hype. Spencer is changing things though. Sonys first two years always suck though, so I should expect this. I can't wait to see Guerilla's new game. Its about time Sony let them work on something new.

A GT7 teaser at E3 wouldn't surprise me, but given we only got GT6 in 2013, there's no way in hell GT7 is coming this year.

Oh, that's definitely not happening. I don't expect GoW4 to come out this year either. I only expect reveals/teasers.

Although, I think I remember seeing a tweet from one of the GoW devs saying that people won't see them at E3. So I guess that's out of the question.

Nintendo has a big selection of games coming up for the rest of the year. I'm not worried about them at all. I'm even less worried about Sony. They could release a statement that says they remove a unicorns horn with each PS4 sold and most likely their sales will increase. I'm actually more concerned about MS with the rumor of QB being delayed.

Microsoft has more big titles confirmed for release and one rumor isnt exactly hurting their chances. They will have an almost unanswered 3rd and 4th quarter from Sony and Nintendo, we'll see.

I'm not so sure. Nintendo will have Mario Maker, Xenoblade Chronicles, Devil's 3rd, Star Fox, Zelda U, and Project Giant Robot is supposed to happen in the 2nd half too. Nintendo is fine and dandy this year. Plus there will be unannounced stuff. Captain Toad was one such game last year.

Nintendo could announce Pokken, Metroid and Animal Crossing this E3

That´s 3 big titles.

Metroid and Animal Crossing would be nice buys. Pokken wont get very much hype and i'm a fighting game fanatic. That game hasn't gained any major stripes in the fighting game community yet.

It´s a Pokemon game, if they announce a WiiU port, you can be sure that there will be hype.

And you should not underestimate something like Mario Maker, it can be a huge surprise.

I reckon that (as usual) gaming media will give MS the rough end of the stick. They'll spend some time highlighting synergies between Xbox, Windows 10 and mobile, and gaming websites will crucify them for it.

Nintendo needs a massive E3 because the public now think they're bringing their games to smartphones. Click bait headlines all over facebook at the moment are spreading the wrong impression. E3 being the most public gaming event they need to show that they are not leaving hardware in a big way IMO.

Sony doesn't have to do anything at this point, they don't need games to sell the PS4.

Well, Nintendo are bringing their games to smartphones.

Agreed. Microsoft has a lot prepared, so Nintendo and Sony can't sit back and relax anymore.

As for Sony, I don't think they have anything to worry about. Their momentum is so strong, they could ride the year out on multiplats alone. Heck, if they announced tomorrow that they've decided to adopt the same DRM Microsoft was castrated for proposing in 2013, I reckon gamers would roll with it.

There'd be an outcry at first but it would die down quickly :P

There was a time not long ago Microsoft was king in the market. Look what happened at E3 2013. It'd be idiotic and catasrophic.

The only window I can think of them being in a dominant position was during the first 2 or 3 years of the 360s life. But they were still outsold by the Nintendo Wii and were plagued with the RROD. So although they had good sales and had some great games even then it wasn't a clear win.
