Nintendo needs a massive E3 because the public now think they're bringing their games to smartphones. Click bait headlines all over facebook at the moment are spreading the wrong impression. E3 being the most public gaming event they need to show that they are not leaving hardware in a big way IMO.

Sony doesn't have to do anything at this point, they don't need games to sell the PS4.

Well, Nintendo are bringing their games to smartphones.

They are making apps featuring their IPs, not bringing their existing titles to mobile, going third party, releasing a new system imminently, or any of the other BS claims being spread by sensationalist clickbait headlines.

I swear, gaming journalism is the worst there is. It makes tabloid journalism look good.

There was a time not long ago Microsoft was king in the market. Look what happened at E3 2013. It'd be idiotic and catasrophic.

When we MS ever king of the gaming market?

Considering how well it did for a 2nd gen console from Microsoft, it was pretty good. Also by king I mean they did very well, they outsold the PS3 their main competitor, and eventually outsold the Wii in the US. Many people forget this, now that Microsoft has lost it.

They still finished last.

It's about time for Next Level Games' next project to be revealed. Your guess is as good as mine, but the last I heard, it sounded like they considered it "bigger" than Luigi's Mansion.

Also, Fire Emblem If is a big deal. Awakening was -- still is -- very popular.

Are they making apps for everyday use, non-game use or mobile games? As far as I can see, Nintendo are now making new games for smartphones.

Bingo. New games.

"Bringing their games" on the other hand implies putting their full retail releases on smartphones. They've said they're not going to do that. We won't be able to play Mario Kart 7 or Pokemon X/Y on an iPhone.

Maybe Mario Kart 9.

If you ask me, open world Zelda is bigger than all those Microsoft games.

Sony has the sales, so while i think they need something for the holidays, i dont think they are in any kind of danger. Especially because the PS4 has been getting more exclusives during the year and the Xbox has nothing. I would argue Microsoft are the ones that have to prove on E3 that they are more than a Christmas box.
