Maybe when if they drop down to $299.99 AND redesign the console ala PS3 slim.

this is a idea! maybe. but the new xbox one slim design for 299 dollar, not more.

Unfortunately the first iteration of the XB1 slim will basically make it around the same size of the PS4. And slim or no, XB1 has to do much better then $299, cause that will have zero effect if Sony has the PS4 at $299 too.

Current sales show one sad fact, being $50 cheaper alone will not make the XB1 sell better or even as much as the PS4. They have to be at least $100 cheaper. And probably with some sort of pack in like they were around november/December when you could pay $350 for it and get 2 games and an XBL subscription. that's almost $140 of packed in value in addition to the $350 price tag.

I dont even think the x1 can take another holliday. The snowball efect this year will be masive, the gap will be over 1.2m and the ps4 will have a pricecut and or bundle for the hollidays. Lets face it, last holliday wwas their last shot. they needed the momentum from a good holliday, but as son as jan came it all colllapesed. And this time they have no no exclusives aside for halo for the year and the ps4 has already releaed the order, in a week bloodbourne, then mlb and type 0, this year will be a slaughter.

Even though I agree that the XB1 will have a hard time keeping up with the PS4 over the next 3-5 months, I don't think that the PS4 will slaughter it.  As it stands now, the PS4 will win the rest of the world handily.  But the US will be somewhat close(PS4 outselling XB1) for the next 3-5 months.  But, this fall the XB1 has all the big hitters and I expect another price drop in the cards.  Will it be enough to take back the crown in the US?  I doubt it, but next year will start with both consoles withing 500k of each other.

If the ps4 can bet slightly or even match the x1 sales in the hollidays, wich I think is going to happen this year, then that would be a slaughter for the year. The x1 has the big hitters? It has halo onlly. Quantum brake was also delayed or getting delayed while not even looking very good to start with. All the big games coming this year favor ps4 like MGS, FFXV, Witcher, maybe batman(i dont know) and the ps4 will have an official pricecut this year, and early exclusives like bloodbourne and the order and mlb and type 0 and FFX can come bundled for the holidays at least 2 of those with a new game. I really dont see thex1 having that much o an advantage this holliday, its only good selling period.

But for what reasons do you think the XB1 will sell better in the US?

Because the 360 sold better in the US than PS3 and it is currently only about 600k under the PS4 in the US and Halo hasn't even hit yet.

Isn't the gap over 700k? And well heck the PS2 sold better than the XB1 in the US. And while Halo is a HUGE game do you really feel it is enough alone to take back the US? And Halo will be out during the Holiday period. So what about the rest of the year? What is the PS4 outsold the XB1 by say 50k every month until Nov(just thinking out loud here). That would have the gap back at over 1 million. So you are saying Halo alone will cause it to erase a million lead? I just can't see it with just Halo. If it is still being out sold and it is cheaper then Halo alone won't cut it IMO.

1. Build a time machine
2. Go back before this infamous E3 conference
3. Rethink the strategy and understand gamers. Used games are a critical point. I sell 1 or 2 games and buy a new one. The strategy with "no used games" or "Kinect always on" scared people away, made them laugh and say "Hey, why not the PS4? They don´t try to take my money and make a fool out of me".
4. Make better hardware that is similar to PS4
5. Invest in new IPs. No, no one cares about Fable anymore, not many will buy Halo Remake and the brand new Halo 14 or 15.

Apple didn't win by building the strongest phone. They may've won by building the strongest mp3 player, but that's another issue.

But number 3 was it. How scary and insulated these companies are now, that you wouldn't dare hear MS blame EA, Ubisoft, etc, by name for these anti-consumer policies.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Xb1 has only won 3 months. The first was because ps4 was supply constrained, the other because of a fire sale. Every other month has been ps4 16 or 17 months so far. I don't think that's going to change.

It has a good shot to do so. If last November was any indication, should the Xbox One match the sales or even surpass them, then taking back the US could happen. However, keeping within line of the PS4 sales from Jan- October is just as important. Should Microsoft achieve this, the One has the ability to do so. Otherwise, if it cannot keep competitive with the PS4 in those months, then it will be very difficult to achieve; even with 'Galaxy Busting' November months.

I don't see this happening. By October this year, there should be a PS4  lead of over 1.2M. 200k more than what it was by the same time last year. for the XB1 to take the lead in NA, then it has to sell 600k+ more than the PS4 in both November and December. Just don't see how that is remotely possible.

It doesn't even stand to sell garner as much if a gap this year if Sony actually trys to compete this time and drops its price.

Hence why I said keeping in line with the PS4 sales from Jan-Oct. is just as important. If they cannot achieve this, then they will not catch up.

In addition, who would have thought a console could sell that many in a month? In addition, who's to say that cannot happen again; especially since Guardians and Black Ops III will command huge sales since both franchises have very big install bases. On top of that, look how price cut happy Microsoft was during last year. A Guardians bundle with a free game certainly isn't out of the question.
