Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo is still against annual franchises

Good. I only need one Mario Kart or one Smash Bros a gen. Nintendo is better off diversifying their lineup anyway. They can't afford to run franchises into the ground like certain other developers we can all name.

Problem is that they don't on wii u at least, what new, for instance what mascot has the WII U brought (yes I know splatoon is coming). It would also be a great thing if there where not that many 2d platformers on wii U it's getting a bit sad, since the phrase Nintendo only makes platformers is more accurate than on the twins there are only shooting games, diversity is kind a dead on wii u, less on 3ds. So nNintendo might be against annual franchises but they are defenitly against doing something new, which is something Sony, Microsoft, Ubi and EA still try once in a while.

New does not equal diverse.  A new game can be more of the same old gameplay.

Could Nintendo use some more diversity?  Absolutely.  Would they have even less of it if they were devoting resources to creating current gen sequals to Mario Kart and Smash Bros?  Also true.

they are all in the mario universe. they milk it very well and that's not exactly a bad thing. they are smart enough to mix it up.

pokemon is still publised and owned by them.

and i'm not saying anualized. I'm saying lots of them get many per gen.

There's more difference between Mario Kart and Super Mario 3D World than every shooter in existence.

So you're really saying this is a Mario game? You could make a better case that this is a Metroid game lol (something only people who played this game with a keen eye will understand :p).

Is this also a Mario game?

The mario series gets a bunch of games every gen. It's their biggest franchise so nintendo have expanded it.  Doesn't change the fact the likes of it and pokemon are pretty much annualised.  It's not a negative btw.  I'm saying that some of their franchises get a lot of games but others don't get enough.

I'm sorry, but that's like saying The Simpsons is the Tracey Ullman show.

Talk about cherry picking. There is way more diversity in sales in games on a PS or xbox. Plus, who plays handhelds and consoles?

Which has to do with what? The argument made is that they don't like Nintendo games because the series are oversaturated yet they'll play 11 AC games between 2007 - 2013, with no problem. It doesn't matter if there are other series in this particular argument. The diversity claim is a separate discussion entirely.

No, the image cherry picks games, period. It does not make sense.

Plus, it only shows one exclusive that is not Nintendo.

You obviously don't understand the logic behind the picture, and my post. The reason why it picks certain games is because it is making a point that these games on other platforms are perfectly fine when they have a release every year, and Nintendo can release 16 Zelda games in a span of 28 years and be crucified for it. It has nothing to do with the total diversity of the library of platforms. Stop strawmanning, please.

I like Nintendo. But, they just offer the least diversity. And people will interperet the image how they do because it is a subjective thing open to a ton of ambiguity. Stop trying to say there is only your way to see the image my good man.

No it is an non-rigorous analysis of a common argument, "Does Nintendo rehash games more than other developers on other platforms?" It has nothing to do with platform diversity, and you can't skew it by claiming subjectivity (this is an objective analysis, not a subjective one.) Seriously, this isn't even a debate. Not understanding something doesn't make it subjective.

The text in the image itself flat out highlights what he meant.
