Huh? What's the problem? They brought back 2 Zelda games that haven't been touched since the N64 and reintroduced to a generation that may have completely missed those 2 games. LBW was one of the best Zelda games I played in a long time, and then there's Zelda U, which is looking to be an awesome game. Hyrule Warriors, that was a cool interesting way to expand the franchise to a different kind of game. Am I missing something? No problem here. o:

Not entirely true there m'dear, there was the collector's edition on the NGC, and both are up on the Wii's shop for download. They are also two of the most popular N64 ROMs on the internet.

That`s true, although MM as part of the collection seems a little hard for people to get a hold of. You do have me there on the Wii shop, but at least they redid MM with better visuals and a some extras.

And quite the contrary to my avi, I am in fact not a lady, but a man, at least with the `dear` thing ; )

You'll always be dear to me.

Thanks, I guess.. haha~

Sorry, I'd take remakes of the two of the best games ever over the Zelda DS games, as for consoles...
Since this is Nintendo's first HD Open world game, it will take a while. Also if you think ALBW is a rehash of ALTTP then TP is a rehash of OoT.

You aren't at least a little disappointed that they reused the overworld for ALBW? Also, I personally really enjoyed Phantom Hourglass. I felt like that game had a lot of really interesting side quests and activities outside of the traditional dungeons. I'm curious as well to how me saying ALBW rehashing the same world as ALttP would be akin to claiming TP rehashes OoT. What does TP reuse? The art style?

Let me counter this with another question: Aren't you at least a little disappointed that the overworld shows asolutely no consistency in between the games at all besides the 2 mentioned games (you can find the overworld area of Zelda 1 in Zelda 2 after wandering through Death mountain, but it's tiny and barely recognisable if you don't know it. Oh, and Spectable Rock appearing in each game)

You're right. Nintendo should start releasing only new Zelda games every single year. Remakes introduced old classics to modern and young gamers, but thanks to you I realise that Zelda should be a yearly franchise with no remakes.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Zelda's in good shape right now... But what do I know? I though Spirit tracks was awesome.

Zelda Wii U is the biggest Zelda yet, I'm ok with having 3 remakes and 1 2D Zelda if that means I can get an amazing 3D Zelda.

Seems like a thread where I should say something useful.

I'll start with, given all the criticism here, by saying I personally liked Spirit Tracks a lot. It's a good game with good ideas and good dungeons and locations. Before the HD remaster of The Wind Waker, I thought the former was actually better than the latter. I'd put them both right in the middle of the ranking of best games. A Link Between Worlds is equally good, I'd even put it a spot higher up, but it did have some things I didn't care for.

Besides the renting system, I agree with OP that it's overworld was disappointing. I however, only really had a problem with Lorule. It makes sense for the Hyrule part of the overworld to be exactly the same as the one in ALttP, because the game is a direct sequel. One of the few in the series, and this one is also supposed to take place in the same location. That's okay by me. The Dark World in ALttP however, was supposed to be the Sacred Realm, which is something different than Lorule supposedly, so yes, I agree that should have been different. It's a problem with the game itself though, and doesn't make it less of an original entry for me.

To the topic at hand though, in general I'm fine with how this gen goes Zelda-wise. The games they've remade/remastered were 13, 11 and 15 years old. That's old enough to give them some extra attention for a generation and they've really done a wonderful job at them all, making them feel fresh yet retaining the magic that made them great in the first place. One original on handheld and one on home console is okay, that's happened before in the SNES/GameBoy era, and the GameCube/GB Advance era is questionable enough with should-be-spin-off-Four Swords and Twilight Princess which is more often than not associated with Wii instead.

There was also the ALttP remaster and NES Zelda ports on GBA, and the OoT, MM and NES Zelda ports to GameCube on the Collector's disc. The GameBoy Color the generation before that also had one remaster of the two handheld games (Link's Awakening DX, with the original game being the Oracle duo).

If anything, I'd say we were just spoiled last gen, probably due to the giant success of both Wii and DS, that we got four truly original Zelda games in one gen, as well as spin-offs for both systems. This gen, we're just going back to business as usual.

I think Zelda is being well managed this gen. ALBW is amazing and i am hyped for Zelda U. HW was awesome for a spin-off.

Almost no one played WW, since no one had Game Cube. I loved it and i believe it received its fair share of work.

OoT and MM were very requested by fans, and they are part of different project, which aimed to bring back some classics from N64.

By the end of this generation, Nintendo will have released at least 5 Zelda games on their platforms. Of these 5 games, 3 are remakes and another rehashes the overworld from A Link to the Past. What happened to this great franchise? The previous generation we had 4 entirely new Zelda games. No rehashing overworlds or remakes. Is Nintendo having trouble deciding where to take the Legend of Zelda next? BTW, I'm willing to pretend Hyrule Warriors doesn't exist if you promise to forget Link's Crossbow Training.

lol it takes balls to make a thread like this on the vgchart forums.

If I made it, I would've gotten banned.

@OP

I like Hyrule Warriors (I guess, I only played it for 4 hours) and Link's Crossbow Training.

I didn't like Skyward Sword or Phantom Hourglass and I skipped Spirit Tracks. The direction Nintendo has taken this generation is fine in my opinion.

Maybe if people bought other games besides Mario and Zelda we wouldn't have this "problem"...

OP will have great difficulty making me believe he's owned a Zelda game made after 6th gen.

I know it's hard to comprehend that other people have different opinions than your own. Hopefully as you get older, you will learn to discuss the differences in opinion instead of just dismissing it immediately without any thought. Probably won't though because that would require you to think.

Anyways, since I love lists, here are all the zeldas I own:

Legend of Zelda -GBA

Legend of Zelda ALttP- Wii and Wiiu and GBA

Legend of Zelda MM-N64 and wii

Legend of Zelda Oot- N64 and wii

Legend of Zelda Minish Cap- Wiiu

Legend of Zelda PH- DS

Legend of Zelda ST- DS

Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword- Wii

Legend of Zelda WW HD- Wiiu

Legend of Zelda ALBW- 3ds
