Final Fantasy X is the first that comes to mind. I don't know if it was the English VA, but Tidus began to really annoy me.

But at least that was to some extent an intentional part of the story. He was supposed to be an idiot to start with so his progression to being more serious had more impact.

A better example of the same narrative arc is Luke from Tales of The Abyss. He's Tidus cubed.

I didn't really hate many protaginists, but there's been several bad ones. Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Graces, and Bravely Default (whole cast really isn't very good) definitely come to mind.

Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

But then, you didn't greatly enjoy the game...

Every Zelda and persona game...

RPGs are sure to be the general consensus here... Haha.

I loved Tales Of Symphonia, but Lloyd was too generic for me, I couldn't careless about anyone on that game besides Kratos tbh...

Pandora's Tower I enjoyed, but Aeron had no appeal to me... And Elena became annoying.

Currently playing Final Fantasy X, I'm enjoying it a lot, but besides the awful encounter rate AND ambushes PLUS the fact that I don't care about Yuna or Tidus (though they're both good in battle). Seriously... Khimari probably has 10 minutes or voice acting, and I like him more than everyone but Lulu and Rikku... I hate Wakka.

Many others come to mind... Such as the Naruto games. I love those because they're fun and have many characters to choose from, but Naruto and Sasuke are the main characters and I can't stand them.

Generic "goody two shoes" male and female leads in RPGs ANNOY me. I wish there were more leads of the likes of Kalas from Baten Kaitos, he couldn't careless about an evil trying to destroy the world, he just wants revenge and "let them save the world, I don't want to".

...I...hmm. Maybe I'm incapable of enjoying a game if I can't stand the characters. I hated the cast of FF9, and the game itself didn't do anything to make up for that. The closest I can think of is DK64, but "greatly enjoyed" would be a gross overstatement. I remember disliking the male companion characters in RE3 and Code Veronica (Jealosy? Or maybe they're actually both douchecanoes that deserve the hate. I don't remember.).
