Forums - Gaming - Final Fantsasy 15 is CLASSIC FF

I know what you mean, I'm waiting for the day they make a Dark Souls Turn Based RPG, then I'll be all over it.

well considering that the soul series is taking an even more action oriented approach with Bloodborne then i guess you are going to have to wait for a little bit.

Don't worry, my remark is aimed at 11 to 14 (including MMOs in this) and I think FF12 is a great game. And yes before that, they did have the same basic gameplay.

10 1 2 and 3 don't have dynamic turn systems. And if you mean the battle flow aka choosing between attack/magic/items XI XIV and XV have it too

I quote myself from earlier:

Remove the differences in magic/how you perform actions (usually based on story) from each game and all you have left is 'run around a screen/map, then fight in random battles and each character takes a turn over time to perform an action, chosen by you, until the enemy or you run out of HP'.

I know what people are trying to get at but Kingdom Hearts had you choosing attack/magic/items too and I enjoyed it because it was KH not because it was KH with FF gameplay. I know they change things, I know they adapt but they don't have to do that with the basic gameplay that defined the series, it's the reason many like it and the reason it was considered great (I mean it can't have been the magic/story/world of each game because we know that changes :)). And regardless of what game mechanics existed in 11 and 14, they are MMOs so that's instant lose from my perspective.

Hmm, pie.

Correction: all mainline Final Fantasy games are instant classics.

This is right stuff I can get behind.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Dude if you want to say that the game can still be good in a different way, than just say that. Don't say that this game is "classically" Final Fantasy when it was conceived as an action-RPG spin off of 13. None of the previous numbered entries are Action-RPGs, and that's the point you're missing when you go on about ATB and Jobs systems.

I'm as big an FF fan as they come and I'm trying my hardest not to be cynical about this game. I was doing okay until about 6 months ago when they revealed that you can only give commands to Noctis (classic FF right?) and that there are no female characters in the party. It's true that the combat style has changed from game to game but there has always been a strong emphasis on strategy with calculated decisions using all charactrers in battle.

This game resembles Crisis Core or Dirge of Cerebus more than any of the numbered Final Fantasy games. And that's fine, try something different. But don't try something different and deliver it as a numbered FF entry. Call it something else and deliver us a proper FF15 that's true to the series' traditions. 13 came out in 2009. Fans have been waiting a while for the next entry to get the bad taste out of our mouths that 13 left, and this is not what we had in mind.

I don't think 'classic' is the right word to describe this because classic ff is a turn based rpg...

But I do understand where you are trying to get at.

Overhyping is the road to disapointment.

My problem is that it looks like a button masher, and a slow one at that. The combat doesnt look anywhere as good as the lastest Kingodm hearts from what i have seen. I reserve my jugement, but i have realistic expectations that this wont be half of what squeenix is having us believe.

So a game has nothing to do with its gameplay... I get it now. Graphics is superior!

Nah, I look forward to this game though I got to say I am a fan of turn based and not too thrilled about the switch. Button mashing or action based mechanics tend to be really boring if they lack a lot of diversity. It's one of the main reasons I didn't like Kingdom Hearts very much. I just hope the game's item/weapon/armor/magic/attacks aren't completely lacking or its going to have a problem. That and it better have all the sidequests FFXIII was missing. I don't want this thing to feel like the entire game is the walkway to the final boss.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

He's playing FF8 now, so he is currently witnessing it

Hasn't finished witnessing it. Also there is still FFIX which on some days can be better.

That's not realistic expectations. You throw in a negative stance. So that's pessimistic expectations.
