Why release any game to a low install platform?

Despite its low sales, the Vita is getting some good support, at least in Japan.

I thought we already established that Japanese people are crazy.

Haha, I can accept that. Those I guess supporting the Wii U too is just too crazy for them, maybe even suicidal, haha...

It's pretty easy to see what's going on here. With Rock Band no longer being published by EA, they're really trying to trim expenses, as we can see by the fact that they're going with less instruments.

Also, before anyone jumps on them, they did mention their own research, which included surveys and asking for feedback. They said they got a ton of responses--perhaps very few of those responses were from Wii U owners?

It's a shame but Rock Band is obviously has a ton of upfront production and distribution costs. This is about money.

I can see it being that it's possible for the game to see decent sales on the Wii U, but their confidence level isn't high enough to take the risk with limited funds.  I mean, people saying that it's because the Wii U has a low user base so it wouldn't sell very much isn't the best argument when you look at data showing that certain games actually do sell better in certain demographics (regardless of the user base level).

I imagine the reason they didn't straight up say the real reasons up front has to do with the given reason being much easier to understand.  PR tends to do stuff like that.

its EA... why are people surprised lol

The problem is that it is _not_ EA. EA are not involved here.

Harmonix are using Madcatz to offset some of the instrument costs but are otherwise going it solo.

Guess it's one of those countless times that silly developers don't know any better, but forum people do. Guess we'll never know who's right. If they do release it for the wiiu and it flops, there will some kind of conspiracy involved.

This is sort of a different scenario... PS vita in Japan is doing relatively well, and the devs are targeting that audience specifically

Rock Band can choose to port to a wide variety of consoles and chooses to skip out the the weakest one with the lowest sales, and that is the Wii U

I don`t mean just Rock Band, but games ingeneral. I don`t see why Wii U had to miss out on all the games just because it`s not selling as strongly as its compeititors.

No it has nothing to do with its competitors its missng games becasue it is selling bad Period. End of. Its not up to par with what a console should be selling.

Look's like it's the same reason why they skipped the Wii initially. But they are right, WiiU Wii owners (86%, see below) already purchased the RB1+2+Beatles+Lego. WiiU is already backwards compatible, so the demographic can already play the games, hence why we don't need a WiiU Rock Band 4. These games are about music and not graphics, right?

I just skimmed through the first responses, and I saw people talking demographics.
There was a study done recently released by Nielsen which showed some numbers.

Nintendo has tapped into its loyal fan base with its latest system—86% of Wii U owners are prior Wii owners. Consumers appreciate the fun-factor, kid-friendliness, and value of Wii U. Not far behind, three of four Microsoft Xbox One owners are previous Xbox 360 owners. And this is understandable, as these consumers indicate their top reason for purchasing an Xbox One was the brand. Meanwhile, PlayStation 4 has shown an ability to capture both previous PlayStation 3 owners, as well as competitive seventh gen users, thanks to its superior resolution, Blu-ray player and game library according to purchasers.
