Forums - Nintendo - Younger "gamers" are hopeless for Nintendo.

The thing is, all of these "gamers" are pretty clueless. Most RPG fans don't have even a third of the knowledge of the genre as some of the die hard fans, a lot of them even proclaiming themselves die hard fans of the genre when they've played mostly nothing more than a few popular series. Regardless of the genre these people are hardcore gamers.

The example I gave about RPGs kind of drops on a lot of people in this community as well, but people that don't follow gaming on the internets are even less knowledgeable.

I'd say this isn't a Nintendo problem, but gaming as a whole. Numbers here on VGC are deceiving. In reality, I've found nobody seems to care about any next-gen (or I guess current gen by now) at all. I know exactly one (1) person that owns a PS4, and he isn't very active with it it seems, and I myself own a WiiU. That's it. Even people I know had gaming systems in the past and were fairly into it just seem content with what they have (older systems, PC or, yes, mobile devices) or just don't care anymore either way and moved on to 'cooler' things. Young or old doesn't really matter.

Which is why I have my doubts about the longevity of the 8th gen.

LOL. I do think consoles are being challenged in a way that they haven't been in a very long time, but it is possible that the people you know just aren't very representative. That seems more likely than sales numbers being deceptive.

Maybe, maybe not, we'll see. Fact remains that today's state of gaming is a far cry from a couple years ago everywhere I look and stores are either closing or downsizing left and right, though I could see there's possibly differences between cultures and countries. So like I said, we'll see, but for now I'm personally not exactly very confident.

I saw a guy watching a 'cut down' version of Nintendo's previous E3 Direct, which just had the claymation stuff and none of the trailers; didn't even know it was Nintendo's E3 from last year... and he says he wants to be a game-developer (he's looking to get into the programming for game design course I'm doing but has never done any courses in web design, multimedia authoring, 3D modelling, digital-art , animation or even film so I don't know how that'll work out for him). Didn't even realize how much praise their reimagining of E3 got in the media.

How 'informed' are modern consumers? I mean, its one thing not to know about Shin-Megami-Tensei or that Project Spark has released but how can someone who thinks they want to be a game designer skip any of the E3 events? I mean Nintendo may not be the most successful, but why would anyone deliberately choose to be uninformed on something that they're supposed to care about? I mean just because someone would be disinterested in actually owning the console doesn't mean they should be turning a blind eye to a third of the industry (and remember, Nintendo means the Wii-U AND the 3DS).

Kids these days seem pretty clueless... you guys have any stories about the 'next generation' actively ignoring Nintendo rather than just disliking their decisions? I mean I have a friend who is a self-confessed PC FANBOY who still watched the twin's conferences and the direct! You can probably already guess that he's in his mid-twenties.

I want to be a game designer and I skip Sony and Microsoft's E3s all the time. We Have our ideas on what we want to do already and we have our main interest. I'm only interested in nintendo games so this person probably just isn't interested in E3 or nintendo at E3. Its really not a problem in my book.

well sony/ms just shows some cgi trailers and let people talk about boring stuff on the stage. nintendo shows alot more and has interesting interviews at the treehouse...

Sorry, I can't take any opinion piece that includes a "kids these days" line seriously.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

While I'm not entirely sure this relates to OP's post, I definitely think Nintendo can't rely on a fanbase (that barely exists) of children...
Their target audience should be manchildren...
That was a joke; don't take it too seriously...
I get the impression that Nintendo doesn't think it is capable of appealing to anyone over the age of eighteen...

Have a nice day...

If you look at music, artists draw upon many different sources for their inspiration. Why should ths gaming industry be any different?

Nintendo isn't even close to one third of the gaming industry. Lots of developers don't give them (or consoles generally) a second thought these days, and they do just fine.

Hardware and software sales greatly disagree with you.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won
