The IPs are the same, because you don't need a new IP when you do the same things anyway.

That's like saying we don't need more sci-fi based books after Julio Verne and Isaac Asimov because they're all the same.

I'm trying to say that the setting or just being a new IP doesn't make a game innovative. There needs a lot more to happen for a game to be innovative.

If you're interested in Nintendo content and understand german, maybe you want to take a look at my youtube channel! :)

Just out of curiosity, are the arguments thrown around in this thread still serious?

The fun sized quote tree that sparked from my post starts with "we live in a cheesy cyberpunk dystopia".

This odd sense of pride I have now must be how you feel everyday, Rol..

Youre statement makes a lot of sense when you completely forget that everyones grandads played the same nintendo IP's driving their consoles today, 40 years ago.

Yeah that's what I just said and everyone before. The IPs are the same, because you don't need a new IP when you do the same things anyway. Yet most shooters that get released don't offer anything new, but people get the impression that they "innovate" because of the setting or graphics or whatever. You seem to take this way too personal when there is no need for that at all.

Not taking it personally, just annoys me when people are hypocritical about 'reskinning'.

Also frustrates me when people seperate graphics from gameplay, when they are more often than not related very closely.

Shooters have had more innovations in the last 10 years than just about any other genre. Id say the only genre to do more is the sports games (a perfect example of improved graphics improving gameplay)

Well, I certainly find Nintendo trying to make new IPs something innovative, coming from them.

We were blasting the PS3 for the same reason last gen. How do we forget the Lair's , Heavenly Swords and all the games that couldn't sell a PS3. Many reviewers were calling MGS4 , the first great exclusive years after the console comes out.
We will get games, great games for all consoles, I can guarantee it. Just don't expect huge scores for all of them.

Because of the amount of classics they released on ps3 they are held to higher standards. Nintendo is the only first party that deserves praise for the last year. Sony and Microsoft need to step things up. With halo and uncharted coming in imagine they will.

All games will dissapoint someone, The games so far seem to have dissapointed the wrong crowd, and the crowd unfortunetly was quite big compared to the people who liked it.

It's hard to satisfy gamers, cause no matter what you do, you will always dissapoint them no matter what you do. You can create a mainstream game but no matter what, people will always find a way to bash it. People are expecting change, and when that change happens, they will bash it. And if you create a game with no changes at all, they will bash that as well. No wonder why COD, AC etc etc are doing so great, cause if you didn't bash the last game, how can you bash the new one? it's basically the same game.

Reviewers:
30% Xtwats.
30% Sony.
20% Mainstream and unbiased
20% hardcore and unbiased.
(Far from accurate)

It's really hard to hit a homerun with a game everytime, and i have never cared about the score system. i play the games, if i don't like them, i usually just give a shit about it.

The only games i've disliked is Mirror edge, Gears and Halo. but every other game is either Ok, good and great but i still enjoyed it

Because we live in a cheesy cyberpunk dystopia in the Internet where the over consumption of infomation has led us to communicate with memes and cynicism has become a constant theme in this generations first year so the overpopulated Internet has to talk about something even though history shows that the great and memorable games don't get released until the second or third year.

well, nintendo did release a lot of great games in the first 2 years this gen, and last gen, and in the gen before...

sony just has one studio that can make realy great games, and they couldnt bring out a game till now because they had one game realy late last gen and need time for a new one.

If they only had one studio making great games then GOW, LBP and so many others wouldn't ave been so great.
