Another thread said the iPhone is more powerful than the PSP, maybe so. It is certainly more powerful than the DS but I am considered by the massive cost, lack of buttons, and lack of games.

One 620 MHz ARM and a PowerVR MBX 3D graphics co-processor. Also the iPhone has a lot more RAM as well, 4MB for the DS compared to 128MB for the iPhone. |
That makes iPhone even more powerfull than PSP. Never seen that coming. If they are going to enter handheld gaming market, Apple will gain signifiant profits.
| Me said: interesting, of course with the touch screen also then it could get some decent games as these days the best DS games hardly use any buttons at all and it's all done via the stylus. If this takes off - this may just force Nintendo's hand to relaunch a new handheld / new model DS earlier than expected thats totally backwards comatible with DS games and drop the GBA backwards compatibility with a new slimline design, storage media, has a section on WiiWare, can store demos and of course more powerful. |
I don't think that this will compete directly enough with DS or PSP to do serious damage to that market. The price difference and specialization of DS and PSP mean that somebody looking for a gaming device will compare those two offerings, adn probably not even consider the iPhone.
However, people who pick up an iPhone for its other features and are interested in having a gaming device as well will probably buy games for their iPhone rather than pick up another portable device. That's a few million people, rather than the dozens of millions of DS owners.

With that much processing power, I wonder how long the battery will last while playing games.

People are acting silly in this thread . The N-gage had a 133 MHZ processor , and it did never reach DS levels . The Iphone will never be able to compete with the PSP in graphics department , while it wont even budge the DSs popularity ... The Iphone will have good sales , just not as a competent handheld rival ....

The backgrounds look good but the monkey/forground looks much worse than many DS games. And lets be honest here, Super Monkey Ball DS is fun but is one of the worst DS games graphically. I think that the Iphone will never get a game that looks better than the best looking DS games for this simple reason. Good DS games sell over a million easy. So they have the budget to tweak and get the absolute best out of the DS. What is the Iphone market? It's not over 5 million is it? And probably 80% of the people didn't buy it for video games. If they tried a Wii approach and put some casual games on there maybe a few could be successful, but I don't see this making any waves in the video game community. I do want a an Iphone. I love the multimedia abilities and the touch screen interface. However, no way I'm going with AT&T and if I did have an Iphone it would take more than Monkey Ball to impress me. I've played the gamecube, wii, and DS versions and that looked like a port of Monkey Ball DS, the worst in the series (although the backgrounds looked good).
I assume the games are going to be predominantly motion/touch. How realistic can it be as a gaming device without buttons? My SE W910i has tilt control. Its fun for a bit, but I still prefer buttons.
