There's not much of an argument to be had if you think looks better than TP.

Man, TP borrowed the textures from both N64 Zelda games.

No, not really. All we have is 1st week sales of Majora's Mask 3D.

One thing to take into consideration are that the 3DS install base at the time of ALBW release was about 35 million, at the time of MM3D the install base is over 50 million.

We need to see how this game legs it out.

we also have OOT original beng the best selling one in the series despited being released on a system with about 30+mil install base. Im just using MM3d as further evidence for my case, but lets see how the game legs out. It might not catch ALBW but it can get close

2D Legend of Zelda vs 3D Legend of Zelda

Legend of Zelda-6.51m vs Ocarina of Time-7.60m

Phantom Hourglass-5.05m vs Twilight Princess-7.07m

Link to the Past-4.61m vs Wind Waker-4.60m

Adventure of Link-4.38m vs Skyward Sword-3.88m

Link's Awakening-3.83m vs Majora's Mask-3.36m

Oracle of Ages/Seasons-3.79m

Spirit Tracks-3.29m

Link Between Worlds-2.40m

Minish Cap-1.42m

So ya 3D Zelda does have the 2 biggest entries in the series but overall the sales are pretty similar. Link Between Worlds will probably leg it out past 3m leaving Minish Cap as the only mainline entry not to surpass 3m but releasing at the same time as DS probably has alot to do with that. 2D Zelda typically sells 3-5 million and 3D Zelda typically sells 3-7 million.

If we go by average, 2D Zelda is at 3.92m (4.23 excluding Minish Cap, will grow a bit as LBW continues selling) and 3D Zelda at 5.30m so 3D is bigger but not by a huge amount.

oh i know, still kinda incredible considering the first 3d one is didn release till their 3rd home console. Zelda and GTA seem to be the only series that actually got more popular once it went 3d

so...its an aesthitic thing. Fair enough, didnt really explain why TP looks ugly though

It looks ugly because it's not 2006 anymore. As "realistic" as some people might say the N64 Zelda games were, they honestly still looked a bit surreal. The only part of Twilight Princess that is not attempting to be ultra-realistic visually is the character designs, but that aside it is 100% trying to be real and when it does that it's way harder to ignore the horrible textures and polygons. I actually tried playing a bit of TP a couple of months ago and was turned off by how hideous the world looked.

The music also sounded pretty bad... god, they need to remake that game so much. I really hope they do it next generation, but as a proper full-blown remake and not a Wind Waker HD kind of thing.

meh, we'll agree to disagree, both those games have aged not that great, and i can see how the darker world of TP would turn people off but i would call it ugly, i wouldnt call any Zelda game ugly. Even SS and i didnt care for that game.

Among Zelda fans it might be considered a better game, but not by the large majority ;)

Just because OoT came first. It's really not as good as most people claim.

Yes, that's quite a valid point. Maybe MM would be the best reviewed game ever if it came first. But, most people enjoy OoT more than MM. MM is the darling among Zelda fans, and I think the sales reflect that.

Twilight princess wasn't aiming for realism. it's the same style of OOT but with much better graphics.

Also of note, Majora's Mask 3D debuted around 350k in the US and 220k in Europe, both significantly higher than A Link Between Worlds.

Wow, really? That's quite interesting. People really seem to want this remake!

Im on my mobile, so maybe you could trim the quote tree since I cant? :)

My reasoning for MM selling less than ALBW is because its perhaps the most hardcore Zelda title there is (one of them anyways) which limits its appeal; more casual gamers wont buy it as much as. ALBW is more approachable so to speak. So theres to factors to consider: its a hardcore title and its a remake. Thatll limit the appeal of the game and thus the sales. But itll still sell 2-3m.

I think you bring up a very good point regarding the expansion pack! That would most certainly have been a limiting factor for MM back in the day, and might mean quite a few people will pick it up this time around. However I still doubt itll catch up to ALBW, no matter the install base or the lack of expansion packs. It might get close, but in the end MM is a remade hardcore title.

Yeah sorry, I didn't notice the tree had grown so large earlier. lol

And now I understand your reasoning a lot better. That makes sense. Though I wonder if many casual gamers are aware of what makes MM so hardcode?

No I dont think they do, and what they dont understand they dont buy...
