Just curious, but why do you expect MM have a steep decline compared to ALBW?
(btw, I'm not saying it will definately beat ALBW anything)

I dont actually know how steep a decline ALBW had, but in two weeks still game will drop of fairly quickly Id guess. The Zelda faithfuls will by then have bought the game, as will the early N3DS adaptors. I can see MM selling roughly 2-3m all in all, but never to catch up to ALBW

That didn't answer his question though. You basically just repeated what you said earlier. He asked why you think MM will sell worse than ALBW. (Which would be an effect of having a steeper decline, since that is what your assumption is.)

What he asked was why I thought MM would have a steep decline compared to ALBW, and I gave my reasoning: the hype will die off when the hardcore fans have gotten thier copies. Granted, the game will most certainly still sell quite well after the first few weeks.
as for why I think MM will sell less than ALBW: VERY few remakes manages to even come close to the original game - Super Mario 64 DS is the only one I can remember right now. Most remakes sell about half of the original games sales. MM sits at around 3.6m I think, so half of that would be 1.8m. OoT3D sits at 3.5m or something, while the original is at 7.6m - so about half.
We have to remember that MM is the darling amongst Zelda fans, not so amongst most other gamers, thats why the sales are so high now and while it wont reach ALBW sales.

What I mean is, you didn't explain why the hype will die down sooner after the hardcore fans get MM, compared to when the hardcore fans got ALBW. What makes you think so?
Although now you mention the sales of remakes, so perhaps that's your reason? Regarding that, it's also important to look at things like instal base of the consoles, availability, and other factors. Majora's Mask is a bit of a special case in this regard. Because there's a rather important factor that many people overlook. Even here on this forum, I've seen two topic creators analyzing potential sales compared to the N64 version, an they both missed the fact that Majora's Mask required the Expansion Pack, which cost $50. Making the game essentially $120 to anyone who didn't already have one. And considering how few games supported it, let alone required it, chanses were people didn't have one. Hardcore Zelda fans could surely burn the extra money to get the game they desired. But MM on N64 was a much tougher sell for the rest. However, for 3DS, it's a lot more accessible, and much more heavily advertised. Not to mention 3DS has a much bigger instal base. So I wouldn't be sure it falls under the "half sales" category. Though I don't think it's much of a casual appealing game, that's for sure. But I wouldn't be surprised if it passes ALBW.

Im on my mobile, so maybe you could trim the quote tree since I cant? :)
My reasoning for MM selling less than ALBW is because its perhaps the most hardcore Zelda title there is (one of them anyways) which limits its appeal; more casual gamers wont buy it as much as. ALBW is more approachable so to speak. So theres to factors to consider: its a hardcore title and its a remake. Thatll limit the appeal of the game and thus the sales. But itll still sell 2-3m.
I think you bring up a very good point regarding the expansion pack! That would most certainly have been a limiting factor for MM back in the day, and might mean quite a few people will pick it up this time around. However I still doubt itll catch up to ALBW, no matter the install base or the lack of expansion packs. It might get close, but in the end MM is a remade hardcore title.
