Sad to see them treat such great IPs with disrespect.

Take into account that it took Mega Man 30 years and 130 titles to get to 30m, something that Monster Hunter surpassed in about 10 years and with 100 less titles.
Dead Rising and Ace Attorney are still infant series compared to Mega Man of course the numbers are lower, yet the average DeadRising/Ace Attorney averages better than the average Mega Man.
Not trying to justify Capcom abandoning the series, but Mega Man was never a big seller, a gaming icon? sure but never a big seller.
You can look at the million seller list, from the dozens of Mega Man games only 4 sold over 1m units.

It was never a big seller, no. But the main series (and the X series naturally) I can imagine are games with very low budgets and, with him being such an icon, there are more than enough people that will buy these games, making them profitable.
You just don't kill your goddamn MASCOT, the guy is not even in MvC3, what the hell?

Damn, 4 versions of SFIV,and 1 more still comin!!!!
From sales point of view, i thought it was the second highest. Guess i was wrong.
I wonder if SFV exclusive is such a good deal for Capcom. Especially with the competitive scene being on X360... :0

Why would they be cheap to make? It's not like the games lack proper production values, as far as NES games are concerned they were all AAA games, same can be said for the X games, specially on SNES, also according to Chris Svensson Megaman 9 wasn't a cheap game to make, and that's a retro revival.
Seeing how Capcom stoppped making those games, it rather proofs that it isn't true.
Still however, maybe they thought that having a team develop essentially niche games with low return was a waste, that kind of resources could go into games that sell very well.

Well, goddammit. If an 8-bit game is not cheap to make, then the first thing I assume is bad resources management and over-budget. Especially considering this is a japanese company, which have been pretty terrible with that in the last years.
I don't mean to underestimate Mega Man 9 and 10 or anything, but indie and fan-made 8-bit games are made ALL THE TIME. Forget that, 2D games with more "modern" art styles are made constantly by people who are not big gaming companies.
I'm seriously NOT convinced that something like a 2D Mega Man classic or X is NOT cheap enough that it won't be profitable with the hundreds of thousands of units it would surely sell. It just feels like Capcom only wants to make games that sell a bazillion copies. RE6 was considered under their expectations, which just shows that poor management problem I mentioned.
Edit: not only that, but the fact Mega Man is completely absent from MvC3 just shows it's not about profit - they're just not interested in the character AT ALL anymore

To be fair, Megaman wasn't completely absent from from MvC3 :P
He just wasn't a playable character, the series was well represented.
This is the last from me on this topic, we're derailing the thread.
Nobody else is poting though :(

Meh, he's the MASCOT of the company, not being playable is a complete crime. That's akin to Mario being relegated to a trophy and a bunch of stages in Smash Bros, thus being "well represented".
But I digress anyway.

Seeing RE6 so high on that list makes me sick in the stomach! >_>

Can you give a source for these numbers? Or are they across multiple sources?
