True story! I think they just can't adapt to new play styles and a lack of exploits and other nonsense.. Shame really but oh well

This is actually pretty false considering about 60% of the competitive Melee community has started playing Melee in the past 2 years.  I can give you statistics on this if you want, but 2014 was actually Melee's biggest year by a wide margin and it shows the majority of the community is really new to Melee and they simply chose to play Melee over Brawl/SSB4.  I would venture to guess that about 80% of competitive Melee players started playing Melee competitively after the release of Brawl.

As someone who loves Melee, I can't really stand the elitists who act like that!

Well... Melee has been out for a very long time so of course it will have more new players than SSB4 and Melee has also been played very competitely compared to brawl and brawl had a lot of nonsense about it like that tripping mechnic so of course there would be more Melee players in the past 2 years than in Brawl or SSB4... And not to mention Melee has been in all the big tournaments for a while now and SSB4 just came out a couple of months ago. Lets see what happens in the future however

Melee is an old, inferior entry in a series that has moved beyond it, and it has not, in all blunt honesty, aged all that well. It was a great game for it's time. But it is not the amazing game that many paint it to be.

And quite frankly, people being so "super serious" about a competitive scene for a cartoony fighting game, will never stop being hilarious. And sad.

I love Smash Bros. But some people genuinely need to get a life.

How is being super serious about a competitive scene for a cartoony fighting game any worse than being super serious about a MOBA or a shooter?  Calling all Melee competitive gamers sad and telling them to get a life is just an ignorant attack on a group of people you know nothing about as many of the top players currently attend school and/or work so it's not like Melee is their job.  I don't know anything about your personal situation but I would venture to say that many of these top players work just as hard as you do.

Melee being old is a fact, but saying it is an inferior entry and has not aged well is your opinion and not necessarily other people's opinions.  I've played every smash game pretty extensively (>100 hours), and still get the most enjoyment out of Melee.  The fact that Melee is still the most popular smash game competitively by a decent margin shows that I'm not alone either.

My point was saying Melee players can't adapt to the new scene is misinformed since most Melee players started playing after Brawl was released.

Yeah. I really don't mind it that people play Melee competitively since it is an amazing game, it's only when the arguments that start and stuff like what happened at Apex occur that reminds me of some of the elitism some of the players show. They can dislike the game, but they shouldn't disrespect and insult the players.

Elitist hipsters are what's wrong with everything.

The FGC in general is a joke, but these tragedies take it to another level. It's a fun party game that's meant to be enjoyed by everyone, not just that group of gimps. And seeing them trash talking each other online in videos only to settle it in a Pikachu vs. Kirby match is embarrassing.

I grew up with Melee, spent hours of my life as a wee boy playing it, it's my favorite in the series but even I can admit that it's been surpassed. The "I'm playing this while they're playing that therefore I'm better" mentality needs to fuck off.

Well considering how terribly they are acting now... Imo, it seems otherwise. Brawl was some what justified considering how much nonsense it has but SSB4? Really? Death Threats as well as how that tournament went and how disrespectful melee players can be just because Diddy won leads me to believe otherwise. If they can prove me wrong, then go for it but considering how content they are to sticking to a game that they know instead of adapting to SSB4 it makes me doubt it. And of course, this doesn't include all Melee players, just the ones that are being so idiotic about it

Elitist assholes beliving they are better for playing a particular game, really disgusting...

I've played all the smash games. Melee is the second to worst in my opinion. The first was the worst (mechanics/balances etc) and then Melee, then Brawl, then Smash 4. It gets better and better in my honest opinion.
