I know myself, and what games I like. I can tell pretty quickly if I wanna get a game day 1, sometime down the road, maybe if it's on sale, or never. If it falls under the day 1 category I'll always preorder it. In all my years of gaming there's only ever been one game I was completely wrong about and regretted the preorder. That was Destiny, and I ended up getting that refunded so it all worked out.

I think I can agree with publishers pushing for pre-orders. Though wasn't pre-ordering always there? I would get often if I wanted pre-order games whenever I went shopping at game stores. I usually say no, so perhaps publishers started doing this to get more pre-orders?

Of course it was always there. But the gaming industry wasn't always this big. The bigger it got the more ways opened up to monetize procedures. The internet and online shops had their part as well. Just think of all the new trends that emerged in the last 10 years. All part of strategies to squeeze more money out of games.

Not saying companies are evil for trying to optimize their margins. It's just the natural way.

Alright, gotcha. Yeah, very true. It seems more natural with how big the industry has gotten compared to the earlier years.

Interesting that it was Destiny. I've heard this comment mentioned many times before around the web, along with other games last year. Seems like there were mixed views on Destiny. I could see the joy in it from a demo at least.

It seems weird, they're enticing you with rewards to pay for a game you may not even like, and those rewards are in the game you may not even like. At least you could still hang the poster. Although, people should be allowed to pre order when and if they please. Pre order bonus' should just go away, or at least the current state of them.

I'm being locked out of content for a game that I buy, simply because I wanted to see if it is good or not. There is certainly something wrong with that.

I never really saw the point in pre ordering games, there's no incentive for me to do so and to me it's all about blind leaps of faith, watching TB's and Angry Joe's vids made more sense on why it;s often better to not pre roder, you simply reward the pubs/devs before the game has even reached your hands/eyes and you also reward bad practices before they are fully taken on.

All I do these days is wait for reviews to pop up, a few LP's and more videos in general to further study the game, it's pro's and cons and wait for the price to drop down to a level I feel it deserves for my cash, buying day 1 so far has shown that there's less reward and more bugs, day one contant shoved right out the gate that can even suffer bugs itself, then there's witheld review copies which straight away tell me to stay away from games like Dying Light for the time being until they have fully proven *to me* (big massive hint there, no need to even argue that out) that they are worth my money.

That said I honestly don't outright hate the pre order culture but I can see it;s done it;s fair share of damage and just makes me the customer having to be more alert and wait longer due to how the practices play out thanks to pre orders.

I've heard somethings on pre-ordering from Jim Sterling myself, haha. I like to listen to the reviews of some of my favorite youtubers first on some games that have my interest. I was psyched with Sonic Boom, but after hearing the fiasco behind that, I passed on it.

Yeah, I don't think pre-ordering is necessarily a bad thing, but some teams are doing some questionable things that I don't like seeing sprout up...

That first comment made me chuckle. It really does sound odd when you say it that way.

And that 2nd comment is exactly what was terrible about the pre-ordering bonuses for Evolve and MK. So dumb and terrible! >: ( Those need to stop here..!

Preorder bonuses should go away for the.most part. It shouldn't take away from the game experience at all. If there are preorder bonuses, they should be something like a town map or a keyring IMHO. Showing faith in a game before release is still an act that could be rewarded if they choose.

I want a witcher necklace cdproject red... The free shirt I received at the eb games expo simply wasn't enough!

I buy games digitally only.
There are games that I know I will buy regardless of any review or problem (this year those are: Dying Light, The Order, Borderlands Remaster, MLB and Uncharted 4). Those games I always preorder in advance, but mainly because I can preload them and have them ready to go immediately.
Then there are other games that I am not sure about. No preorder bonus can convince me to buy them before I get positive feedback on them.

My opinion is that preorders are OK, if people do them I don't mind, but those people have only themselves to blame if they preorder a broken or crappy game.

Totally forgot our lord and saviour, thank god for Jim!.

Yeah I forgot to mention I watch him on a daily basis, I keep an eye out for Tb's port report videos, his twitter feed (I don't even use Twitter) for technical info, Angry Joe for mostly just his reviews and Jim for his show and his regular LP's on YT.

I was hyped for Sb originally myself but slowly we were hearing news about Big Red button and the staff in general and how the game was treated, I stayed away and waited for the outcome and was probably better off for it.

As long as important story driven content isn't locked away from me then I'm perfectly fine.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

I may sound crazy, but I think the current model of pre ordering is flawed.

First off so far this gen I only buy digitally, and a digital pre order makes even less sense than just waiting for the game to release and paying. as far as I'm concerned like most other things in the gaming industry they have got this backward.

Pre orders only make sense if they are actually cheaper than buying post release. you are basically telling a publisher that you will buy or have already bought their game before they even release it so why should you pay the same amount? makes zero sense to me.
