Forums - Sony - What if the Vita was called PSP 2 or something like that?

A lot of parent's were sold on buying there kids the 'Playstation Portable' because it told you exactly what it was in the name and people seemed to like that idea. Maybe the name 'vita' was a little too pretentious and went over the heads of consumers?

Maybe PSP2 is not that good name, but PS Move would have had a better response. The name of the console it's the least of its problems, though.

It would be like "Wii U" name though, unless they planed an affordable price and crazy support like 3DS did. And also they need to create something unique that is not available on other smartphone device.

Actually I wanted to talk about something like this similar in a thread, but those were nails I did not want to step on. I don't know if the name is a major factor as to why the Vita did as poorly as it did. It could be a lot of different factors that lead to a failure, such as price, games, and drop of 1st party support.

I'm pretty sure 'something like that' could definitely outsell PS2.

People need to stop blaming the name of the Vita and the Wii U for the lack of success. Simple fact is that people are not drawn to the game library, period. Both systems have failed to gain traction. The Wii U and the Vita not selling is not simply because of confusing names, they simply don't offer the games that make the masses take notice. No games in the same earth-shattering/media blitzing caliber that make people talk like the original Gears of War, TLOU, Uncharted 2, God of war, Gran Turismo etc. Vita and the Wii U don't even have the massive AAA titles like COD, Fifa(I think the Vita still gets a crappy port?), Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Watch Dogs, Destiny etc. not saying those games are masterpieces, but those are the games that millions apon millions love. The sales prove this. Games sell consoles, not the other way around.
