Gta and Final fantasy sold better on PSP then DS despite a smaller install base and third party never supported vita well that why it had  bad sale to begin with

PSP have a good sales unlike PS Vita, and dont compare the sales to DS compare it to vita. And also PSP had a good games support unlike Vita due to SONy current condition. All Vita fault because their mistake on targeting the market reuslting low system sales + no mpre support from them. It's not about third party.

PSP had a good sale because it have good support better support then Vita+3ds combined from 3rd party.

Sony tried to target everybody with vita and they fail they failed to attract casuals but Playstation consoles home console and handheld never succeed to attracted casuals unlike Nintendo they tried to attact smartphone gamers but they can't because it's not the right audience to attract they tied to attract hardocre gamers but their first party was never the reason of Playstation success and they fail to make 3rd party support vita well.

I hope this is the last Sony handheld so those stupid 3rd party stop getting money  for their lazy port

PSP had a good launch sales  because they have a decent first party line up, advertising, and PR tools, then market react positively (no competitor from smart phone), after that third party (the big one like square and capcom) begin to supporting it. Unlike Vita which had the same initial press release  but the market react negatively (the consumer already into smartphones ) and third party is not willing to support it and SONY seem to give up with the market.

By the way it's not a system (PS, Xbox, Wii U, Vita, PSP, 3DS) that sell games, it games that sell system. What i mean is before the system get a decent support form 3rd party the system need to sell first. That's why blaming 3rd party is wrong because third party always look on earlier sells and their potential market for the system. Just look how PS4 can sell with limited games on their launching day.

Agree with u about Playstation success is not because solely on first party, it's because they have a balance between , potential market, first party games and third party games. But i disagree if you saying 3rd party is failed to support Vita, " IT'S VITA FAULT TO SUPPORT THIRD PARTY ".

It's not true PSP first party launch support is pretty similar to Vita and 3rd party launch support better on PSP then Vita

The metal gear solid game alone make PSP third party launch support better then Vita one

That's why i mentioned "decent frist party line up+Advertising + PR Positive market reaction".

the main reason is third party better support

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Agree, but not always. and what you mean third party is the  one like SE and Capcom isn't? They also depend on how the launch sales is. If it suck they will not support it, the same with all platform.

But 3rd party support even of the launch day suck so don't except people to buy a console with week 3rd party support

Not always, just look how did PS4 manage to get those sales with decent line up don't you think? It all depend on Market Strategy Execution (i mentioned before, Advertising, PR, games, planing, positioning, market research). Even if VITA had a good third party at launched day is not a guaranty.

You're not going to get as many people with this, Rol. A touch too subtle.

How in the world was this too subtle?

It resembles an argument that could be honestly made. You have to read and think about it a bit before you come up with what's going on.

Actually now i'm starting to debate whether i've given Rol too little credit here.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Lol, Rol.

Vita is the least casual console Sony has ever made.

The real issues are;

1. The fact that they did not make it a full on Playstation Phone.

2. The limited amount of carriers/exclusive deals for the 3G model.

3. The discontinuation of the 3G model, and the lack of a 4G model. Especially now with the speed, and massive amounts of data, which could make remote play and PS Now possible anytime and anywhere.

4. Lack of on board memory. They needed to ship with at least 8GB of on board memory. This would have lessoned the blow of the high price memory cards. At this point it should come with 32GB as a standard.

5. Finally, but I completely blame this on all of the above mistakes which lead to to small of user base. They do not have enough of the 1st and 2nd party suppport. PSP had awsome games like Daxter and the GOW's from Ready at Dawn. It had multiple great games from Sony Bend. It got its own Gran Turismo. It also had 3rd part. Tiger Woods, Madden, WWE, Medal of Honor, GTA.

With all of this said I still think Sony has potential to sell 100M Playstation Phones. Even if all they did was continue it on the PS Vita for another 3 - 4 years. Give the Vita 3GB of RAM for expanded multitasking, 4G for unlimited PSN support anywhere, a 1080p screen for crisp display, 64GB of on board memory as a base model, and the battery life of the Xperia Z3. Release this device with contracts on every carrier in the US, EU, and Japan, and make an unlocked model for peope that prefer unbranded devices. There is an easy 50M+ just sellng to gamers. Keep bringing casual apps, banking, productivity, utility, excersize, etc. and pick at lrast another 50M with the less core gaming group.

PS4 had great sale because it launched with cross-gen games are not port of old games and third party stay support it even after launch.

Advertising without good support will do nothing you need good support and good advertising

Are people forgetting about N-gage the smartphone/handheld hybrid ,a vita phone is destined to fail severely

Sorry but the whole premise of this thread is just stupid, lol :D

No one in their right minds would consider the Vita a device targeted at 'casuals': They don't buy a rather expensive dedicated gaming device just because it has a touch screen. Their smartphones already have that, obviously.
Hell, *every* mobile screen is a touch screen these days because it's really useful, and releasing any mobile device with a screen that doesn't have a touch-interface would be incredibly backwards.
So clearly it's not a matter of 'pandering to casuals', a touch screen is simply a matter of practicality and usability.

The Vita has always been clearly marketed as a dedicated gaming device for the gaming enthusiast and nothing else.
I mean just consider the 1st party games that were released. Uncharted, Killzone, Tearaway, Gravity Rush etc. They're hardly Candy Crush are they?
Much emphasis was made in their marketing on the dual analog sticks too, and how much effort they've put into making them feel just right.

Actually I'm pretty convinced that an important factor to go with expensive proprietary memory cards was Sony's realisation that this is a niche device targeted at gaming enthusiasts that really want a powerful portable console, even if it means putting down the extra money for silly expensive memory cards.
(This I think was a mistake though, because of the backlash it got for that; it was a step too far towards total 'core' enthusiasts and away from general accessibility)
