....and PC gamers wonder why consoles are the platform of choice for publishers? There is your reason right there.

you cant set this game as a standard. its not your usual game. GTA is a beast like no other. we are talking about 45 million here. Watch Dogs sold 8 million and was considered a smash hit. this makes that 8 million look like nothing. publishers wont look at GTA sales and say make their decisions based on it, no game is GTA, no franchise is GTA and nothing will ever be. heck, this game sold more than CoD ghost and advanced warfare combined

You have to be Kidding me.

Imo indie games are still very restricted in genres and budget, they're not like full fledged game in most cases. Mainstream titles are now restricted to a few AAA productions per year: most of them are action games or shooters blended with a mix of rpg / survival /staealth /dirving elements. GTA is a good example fo this. These games sell so much because they offer a bit of all flavours and specific genre games are mostly dead. Plus since dev budget has got bigger, also marketing budget is.

but aren't you changing the argument? you said there was less choice than before. When in time did gamers have more options for games than we do now? If you look back and are looking at a consoles entire library you are missing out on the fact that those take years to build. If you are only looking at retail you are missing out on all the choices people have for games that are digital only. You should notice that most sysyems did have a large portion of their game sales grouped in with a few dozen games. As for your idea about where most the AAA games are, while there are many that fit into that catch-all list you made but that still only covers some of the AAA games. Big thing though games dont' have to be any of the things you list to offer people choices. I'd say there is now so much out there that it's too much choice and people stick with what they have heard of before.

No, I'm not chainging argument. Imo, indie games aren't capable (or are not yet cabale) to replace the medium budgdet games we had some years ago. And yes, there's much less choice and variety today, the Ps2 in its first year had Final Fantasy X (a pure rpg), SSX and Tony Hawk (very specific arcade sport games and), Devil My Cry (new IP - hack/slash), Ico (adveture/puzzle), Silent Hill 2 (pure survival horror), Jak & Daxter (pure plaftorm), Metal Gear Solid 2 (stealth), Twisted Metal (arcade racer), Ace Combat and Starwars Starfighters (arcade aerial shooters), Tekken Tag, Dead Or Alive, GTA3, Gran Turismo 3.

Decent list but hardly more choices than today. Those indie games you choose to ignore from bias, ignorance or laziness don't take away the huge amount of choice everyone else has. Those indie also give choices within genres not just choices of genres. Your initial argument was gta sells well because people don't have choices. Yet how many games just with that type of gameplay do consumers have to choose from? In addition to the thousands of other games they could spend their money on.

GTA sells because it's a will known quality product not because consumers have less choice than they used to.

They're gonna make GTA 6 or something else.

Holy spaghetti...

fucking massive.... seriously i thought the PS4 and XB1 versions would do like 3 or 4 million max. but now they did 10 million in just 2 months. holy fuck. GTA is the king of gaming, no question about it.

seems VGC could be under tracking it a bit, or digital sales are high. i think with the holiday period they could have quite a lot of copies on shelfs.

insane sales. just fucking insane.

Digital sales are fucking massive.  I'll make a thread detailing why in the next day or two.

i wouldnt be surprised. holy fuck man i still cant swallow this number.

I've never denied GTA sells because it's a quality game, in fact GTA used to sell a lot even before (btw I've bought GTA3, VC, SA, Chinatown Wars, and 5, I know it's a quality game). The initial argument was: Ps4 had many million sellers in a short time because gamers are more dedicated, we weren't debating the quality of the GTA series. Also, I don't ignore what indie developers, I know what the PSN offers right now, there are some good and original games indeed, but still not at all comparable to quality and variety I've mentioned before.

That's my opinion anyway, you're entitled to have a different one, but you're not entitled to call me lazy or ignorant for this.

Definitely the biggest gaming franchise.

Impressive sales! GTA is a beast.

Outselling two call of duties is a massive feat.

If you refuse to look at all the games available on the system now because they fall into a group called indie, you my opinion of you that I'm also aloud to have is that you are either ignorant of the games. Though people like me tell you they are there. Or you are too lazy to actually check them out. In addition people don't have to spend money for games they don't want if they aren't happy with the games on the system. They can and do spend money elsewhere. Or wait for games they want. You might not think that the quality of choice is what is been on other systems that's opinion, but quantity just the number of choices is much more. You have to toss out games with various qualifiers that don't stop then from being games people can spend money on instead of another. Furthermore the number of million sellers is even more impressive when you think of all the digital sales that aren't counted by the major retail trackers.
