Forums - Sales Discussion - PS4 and X1 shipped nearly 30 million consoles at the end of 2014 according to AMD

So either AMD is wrong or XBO is overtracked right.

Since Sony announced that 18.5M PS4 were sold to consumers at the beginning of the year, the X1 is very likely overtracked. This also gives us an answer to what MS meant when it said "nearly 10 million X1's sold".

They never said that. They said "nearly 10 million shipped".

MS said "sold", but did not clarify if that meant to consumers or shipped. It was later confirmed that the company meant shipped.

No, it was always shipped, from the start. Actually, the correct quote is not nearly shipped, but:

"Shortly, we will have sold in to retailers more than 10 million Xbox One consoles."

Safe move is to just wait for MS and Sony shipment numbers. These could very well just be really rough rounding.

Ah, my bad. Shipped it is >_<

We'll get shipment numbers from both Sony and MS in not too long, so we'll know soon anyway.

Yeah, these numbers where from November, its January. You're 2 months off! These numbers are useless. Hopefully they provide clear numbers on shipping on the 26th

If that number is accurate, and Sony's numbers too, we have Xbox One overtracked. There's no other way the numbers make sense.

The fact that AMD say "nearly" 30 million means they must have a pretty good picture too.

Why doesn't it add up.

Why would AMD have absolutely accurate numbers?

Its ball park.

Perhaps because he is meaning something at VGC doesn't add up?

Which, given we know from Sony directly that PS4 is at 18.5 million and VGC has PS4 at ever so slightly under that (i.e. it's is spot on), it pretty much means "something" is Xb one is overtracked by several hundred K. So he was being diplomatic by saying "something".

MS only needs to clarify when they mean sold to consumers, and when they do mean that they are explicit about it, like Sony was with 18.5 million. When any of the big 3 says "sold" they mean shipped in to retail. It has been that way forever. So 90% of everyone who follows these things new the minute they announced "nearly 10 million" that they were talking shipped.

I've said in another forum and I'll say it here, the VGC's #s for Xbone do not make any sense.
The Xbox is less popular than the PlayStation than even last generation, and Xbox 360 sold 70% of their consoles in the US. Using VGC's #s, the ratio of US to ROW sales is approximately 60:40.

So let's add this up.
Xbone is less popular than the PS4 in ROW. Only the US got insane Xbox deals throughout the holidays, yet the Xbone magically did better in ROW? The ratio should be at least 90:10 US to ROW.
I'd say Xbone is approximately 2.5m overtracked.
