It was nowhere near a massive success. It completely failed to live up to the initial hype and despite a massive marketing push it failed to aid the Xbox One greatly against the PS4. That was the aim and it's why the X1 version released first.

I don't know where you are going with this, you consider it a failure because of the Xbox vs PS4 situation? You aren't making sense at all. But if you consider it a failure base purely on hype would you also say that Destiny was a failure as well even with all those sales it had?

i consider destiny to be a failure in terms of the hype because that turned out to be half a game aswell. its sells were much better than titanfall but that's because it came out on ps4 so it prob did similar to titanfall. but if they made that game with twice the content it prob would be doing a lot better than it has. Activision shareholders made it clear they weren't happy with the sales.
I don't know what you mean by the "xbox vs ps4 situation" but the situation i'm familiar with was one where the game was hyped to be the next gears of war and the xbox one's saviour versus the ps4. i didn't create that situation so don't blame it on me. some xbox fans, the media and EA did.
It came out and the month of release it couldn't even get the xbox one to win npd. destiny on the other hand gave ps4 a massive september victory. One of these games moved consoles in big numbers but the other didn't. I do think Destiny is ultimitely a failure to but just to a lesser extent.
