Forums - Nintendo - So wii u sales are almost up 100% yoy in EU and US(week ending jan 3). Could there be new baselines in these regions?

Question in Title

Yes the momentum is real! 69 47.59%

Itll go back to 35k or below so no. 35 24.14%

I think it could go either way. 40 27.59%

Total:144

No. Wait for NPD. The baseline was not up 100% in either of these countries before the holidays, and certainly not DURING either. No reason for it to be up 100% now either.

WiiU did 49k last January, so for 100% it needs to do 98k.

That would be its second highest non holiday month, just beat out by Mario Kart June ...

To get some sort of perspective.

I don't think anyone expects a 100% increase in baseline, but just in increase, that's what I got from the question.

As far as EU there are signs that it has an increased baseline due to its software position in the charts.

U.S we should wait for NPD and Japan should be down YOY, that is what I think.

the problem is 100% increase of nothing is still nothing.

Good to know you mastered elementary school math.  How does that relate to Wii U sales which were well above 0?

The US have Kirby, Mario Party 10 and Splatoon as retailgames until end of may. Downloadgames like Mario vs. Donkey Kong dont push hardware yet.
And while Europe is Nintendos weakest market (Wii U hasnt been released in some eastern european countries i think), right now it is stronger in continental europe than Xbone. This is a market with good potential for Nintendo.

And what are they doing? Not even release Kirby.

Mario Party 10 just is no hardware seller, and Splatoon is completely new, without Mario bonus, so it might sell good but it's hard to believe that it will have a noteworthy impact on hardware sales.

The biggest advantage compared to last year are Smash Bros. U and Mario Kart 8. Both longsellers, Both games will sell more or less consoles for years.
On the other hand there simply isnt a new big seller for the first half that will push sales like MK 8 did last year.

People keep saying that it needs games, and that the first half of the year is empty... I don't get it.

Do you guys know what the word empty means?

Of course, there's no Mario Kart this year, but Kirby, Mario Party, Rodea, Xenoblade, Splatoon, and perhaps Mario Maker or Yoshi. Europe is the least important market for Nintendo, and the mentioned games are coming in the first half for Japan and the US. Compare that to Wii Fit U and Donkey Kong last year.

We're talking system sellers though, a heck of a lot of people who will play Kirby already bought a WiiU to play mario for example.Xenoblade is the only possible system seller there that will appeal outside that core demographic.
