In the US around here... Anything can be big. My super casual Uncle was traditionally PS gamer and stuck with it, even got a PS3 over a 360. My other uncle was hardcore and he had an Xbox but primarily played PC MMOs. PC gaming is big with gamers but most people talk about consoles. Xbox has a lot more advertising at retail, but on TV you mostly see Surface ads and cars... Some of Xbox and some of PS4. I see tons of Call of Duty shirts though.

Even so I hear a lot of people say stuff like "I am going to get a PS4 next month". So it appears to be on peoples minds more.

World of Warcraft had a recent resurgence, may not last long though.

Wii U is liked but people do not want to pay the price for it.

Handhelds are nonexistent, seen more PSPs then anything...

What can I say? It used to be Sega's and Nintendo's Land in the past, but when the first PlayStation came, things have turned to Sony's favor. Since the PS1, Sony reigned ultil the seventh generation, when the PS3 was too expensive and Microsoft started to produce consoles here (so the prices were obviously better). A similar scenario is happening now, so since 7th gen Xbox is king.

I know, very flighty people. :p

Furthermore, gaming is very expensive here. An official PS4 still coasts around 1500 USD, Wii U is 700 USD and XOne is 600USD.

America where 90% of gamers are, to quote Toy Story "...uncultured swine(s)". With basic knowledge of games beyond (Beyond!) Call of Duty, Minecraft, and Candy Crush. Not a knock on anyone here, I like to think Americans on Vgchartz make up the other 10%. But Its not bad, we receive about every game and everything is normally affordable. Where Im from I only know 4 PlayStation gamers and a few Nintendo or multi console gamers otherwise all Xbox.

Where I live Playstation is probably the strongest brand. Over here you normally find Wii's in every household, a fragment of the 7th Gen. Until recently most wouldnt consider owning an X1 but with the recent price drop more are buying it. I see a decent amount of Vita gamers here too, surprisingly. Wii U's are non-existent but 3DS's are pretty common. Walk around a store and you'll find 2 or 4 3DS's (the original red 3DS is really common for whatever reason). Xbox 360 owners are common as are (but less of) PS3 gamers.
Over here there are around 4 or 5 locally owned gaming shops which seems to be rare. But could be because retro gaming is decently big here I've noticed. Definitely a great place to live if youre a gamer -very diverse

Yup, mostly this, my friends that work at a call center would rally up after work just to play DOTA 2, though I myself play from time to time, I just get frustrated(when not with friends) because my teammate does not know what teamwork means, thank god for single player games.

So you pretty much already know how it goes. Nintendo and Sony rule the market. Xbox is doing fine, but it doesn't really come close. 

The majority of gamers are probably in their mid 30s, if not more, and PC gaming is getting more and more popular since 2-3 years. It has always been, but it's definitely a growing market.

Also, most of us French gamers are stupid. Like, a lot. It's basically the internet in real life. Also, these guys/gals try way too hard to be "cool". You know how it goes, talking about an old classic when they never played it, just because y'know, modern gaming sucks, talking trash on games or companies that try new things, different experiences (like Quantic Dream for example), etc... But they'll still jump on the next AC or CoD when it releases.

But apart from that, the market seems do be doing quite well.

So yeah, in a nutshell, gaming is strong, but the community... Meh. Fortunately, there are still a lot of actual gamers and all around nice people to meet.
