Forums - Nintendo - Were the 1st downloadable Wii games for Wii U strategically chosen?

Seeing how different regions are getting slightly different games the first few months yes you are reading too much into it like others have said.

They were chosen because they are games that people would want but may not have, and because they fill voids in the current Wii U lineup. I doubt it's to prepare for sequels... though they may come in time.

I could see Nintendo announcing a new Punch Out, they most likely released the trilogy due too demand, and I believe that they put SMG2 instead of 1 because they will either remaster the first one or release it for New 3DS.

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

Galaxy 3 and Prime 4 ain't happening brahs. Best to accept it already.

We will however get a new Cranky Kong game announcement.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

dont think so, they chose a mario galaxy because it was the most popular game on it and metroid prime trilogy because its very very rare to get a copy in physical form. Punch out maybe, who knows

No way.... o.o

japan has donkey kong country returns, the last story and pandora's tower... there's no real method to the choices. i think the reason for galaxy 2, prime trilogy and punch out was that they're all either supply-constrained (galaxy) or out of print (prime and punch out). two of them are also games by north american developers, so perhaps there's some regional considerations as well (japan instead gets 2 jrpgs)...

much as i would love to think about it this way, wario land 4 was one of the first gba games on wii u vc, and that hasn't led (and probably won't) to a mainline wario land title.

Yeah you guys are probably right. I guess I'll just have to pick up Metroid Prime Trilogy and just hope beyond hope that there's a new one coming soon.

Actually I think it was the exact opposite. They probably chose some titles that they felt WiiU lacks. There is no Metroid, Punch-Out or proper 3D Mario on WiiU (3D World is still kind of 2D the way it plays).

This seems more likely to me.

I'm excited for the trilogy. Became a metroid fan after the $.30 get deal for super metroid and interested in trying a 3d one. Any one know if this will support gamepad play/supports classic controller pro

I feel like its a test, them thinking there is so much talking about Metroid Prime and Mario, but Mario 3D sold badly and the Primes sold badly... they want to know one thing: "Is it worth it?"

Punch Out and Donkey Kong meanwhile are... confusing.
