Forums - Microsoft - Gamespot: why I'm not excited for Forza 6... because it isn't open world

How about you keep playing arcade style open world games and stop telling developers to make other racing games like them? MmmKay?

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Lol, don't get me wrong, Horizon interests me more than Motorsports by a long shot, but seriously? Does this guy not understand the concept of a track racer, or does he not understand that his tastes are not necessarily representative of all gamers? He acts like just because he likes the open world style of Horizon means that now no one at all will want a track racer again. I like the open world style for the same reason he does, but I'm not dumb enough to think that because I like it more than track racers that track racers aren't going to interest people anymore. Hilariously bad journalism.

Pretty much disagree with all the points this guy made in that video. Also the Storm Island expansion pack is actually a very good value since it adds rally parts to all cars not to mention the 6 cars that are included are also very good especially the barn find the 1984 MG Metro 6R4.

...Excuse me? Is this real?

Great so now all racing games have to be open world.

Go away and give me my god damn Nurburgring. If you don't like it don't play it, simple as that. Not everything has to be open world god dammit.

Well the Ring will definetly be back and so will all the other tracks that where in 5.  Three tracks that will be new to the franchise and been pretty much semi confirmed are Pacific Raceways, Monza and Circuit of the Americas.  They should take a hint from Project CARS and also add some classic layouts of some tracks especially the classic 15 km layout of Spa.  The old F1 layout for Long Beach also would be pretty epic and better then the current track.  Also since I doubt that they will cut any Ferrari's from the roster bringing back Muegello Circuit would make a lot of sense.

I'm sorry, but this is a goofy line of thought. Not everything have to be open world! This is as silly as say side scrolling platformers are worse than full 3D platformers.

I mean, there are different styles of the same genre, and in the end what makes the game good is the quality, not the style or genre.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Forza 5 just didn't have enough content to be better then FH2.  That being said I'm sure that FM6 will have enough content to be better then Horizon 2.  At a minimum it should launch with at least 350 cars and over 20 tracks that wouldn't even take a lot of work.  I'm hoping Turn 10 actually put some effort into it and it launches with at least twice as much content then 5 did so at least 400 cars and 28 tracks.  The car part is probably a lot easier to achieve then the track part since laser scanning and acurately recreating real live tracks takes a lot of work but they could make that easier by bringing back a lot of the old fantasy tracks which don't need to be laser scanned like Fujimi Kaido, Maple Valley Raceway, and Sedona Raceway Park.

IMO.

Even with 5 tracks and 50 cars... Forza 5 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> FH2.

FH2 is just that boring racing game... open world for racing games is not my taste.

"Forza 6 is going to have to work very hard to get drivers excited for track day again"

I don't see anything wrong with the video as he's stating his opinion.  He's not forcing his opinion down any of your throats, he's stating his own opinion and why he'd rather see another Forza Horizon than Forza 6.  I'd prefer more gaming journalism like this rather than every journalist just bending over and taking it from developers, only throwing praise at the next big release.  I distrust traditional gaming journalism so I'd rather see more opinion pieces like this.

Also, my favorite racing game is Test Drive Unlimited and while I was disappointed in Test Drive Unlimited 2 in comparison, I've had far more enjoyment playing it than I did any dedicated racing game where you're stuck on a track.  I'd prefer a good open world racer over a track based one myself, but unlike some comments seem to reference, doesn't mean I'd prefer open world games over more linear ones, just my preference in racing games.  The best track based racer imo is still Hot Pursuit 2.

Great. I hope the industry allows these "journalists" to morph the industry into what they like, seeing as how devs are rewarded based on metascores. It will save me a ton of money as I find majority of open world titles to be complete borefests due to having too much space with too many empty areas and littered with fetch quests.

GTA, inFamous, Watchdogs, etc... I end up getting seriously bored of them 90% of the time.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.
