Forums - Sales - December 2014 NPD Thread! XBO, PS4, Wii U up! Many software up!

Why do I read people saying the gap is 500k now. Shouldn't it be 600k? I thought the gap before holidays was 1.2M? That's also what VGC shows. 1.2 - 0.4 - 0.2 = 0.6. Not that 100k amounts to much in the grand scheme

581K for Wii U? I'm reading that the console sold over 100K units of its best month, which was December 2013, when it sold 481K units.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

1 Mil for PS4 is mighty impressive too you know.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Congrats Xbox One on those sales! The competition is getting fierce. It's not boring any longer! Glad to see Nintendo with a boost as well.

XBO - ~1.2M
PS4 - ~ 1.1M
WiiU - 560K

Did i miss something ?

Woah, only a 100K difference while MS was more aggressive than Sony by a long shot... o.O

Some stores did drop the price to 350 for about 2 weeks, Amazon offer as much as 2 games as well.

Ps4 had way better deals in December than November.

Sony: PS4 was the top-selling console of 2014 worldwide

Sony may have lost the console sales race to Microsoft’s Xbox One in November and December, but it won the year as a whole.

Sony confirmed that the PlayStation 4 was the best-selling gaming console worldwide in 2014, and it is continuing on a sales pace that is faster than any previous PlayStation system ever. Globally, the console-gaming market generates around $50 billion in spending, which is why it is so important to both Sony and Microsoft.

“PlayStation 4 was the top-selling console in the U.S. and globally in 2014,” a Sony Computer Entertainment America spokesperson told GamesBeat. “And [it is] the fastest selling console in PlayStation history with 18.5 million sold through after just 14 months in the market. We are humbled by this success and want to thank gamers worldwide for helping us achieve holiday sales of more than 4.1 million across 123 countries and regions. We are looking forward to another momentous year in 2015 and bringing an epic line up of titles to PlayStation fans around the world.”

PS4 did well too. Was expecting X1 to beat PS4 by a significant amount again this month.

So the gap in the US is 500K and the X1's price is officially cut down to $349. The question is what will win out: a $50 price advantage or a better upcoming library? The PS4 has two notable exclusives coming up, The Order: 1886 and Bloodborne, while the X1 doesn't have much to counter these games. It'll also have games like Grim Fandango, Toukiden Kiwami, Omega Quintet, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD, and MLB 15: The Show.
