super mario galaxy, just as super mario bros., super mario bros. 3, super mario world and super mario 64 were before it.

It was for over a decade. Good enough for me lol. Halo etc didnt remain exclusive either.

Oddly enough, Jet Set Radio Future did maintain its exclusivity.

I would give replace Uncharted with The last of Us and give that the 3rd slot, but its not even close to Halo or Gears. The IP has a great future, but its noway near as revolutionary as Halo or Gears.

Seems like whatever we point out as revolutionary, somebody else will say some other game did it first. And, for that matter, define Revolutionary, Influential, and Innovative for those of us who are confused.


A revolutionary game is just a game that changes the way we play games within a short period of time.  Revolutionary for games are just steps which took games to the next level and other games learned from it. 

IE of revolutions: Super Mario 64 to open world games > GTA 3 > Assassins Creed (One revolution to the genre per generation in this case)

If we are talking games that have remained exclusive to one platform then its probably Wii Sports. All the games in the poll did nothing to revolutionise anything. They just made something better than we already had.

For me, taking exclusivity out of it, the most revolutionary games since 2000 are GTA3, Minecraft, Guitar Hero, Braid, Shenmue.

Going down the "but X did it earlier", wouldn't Driver 2 or Urban Chaos be the revolutionary games rather than GTA 3? ;)

I know. It's just funny that Halo is the first title listed, but that was released on PC not long after the Xbox original, and is now also available natively on Xbox One. So I figure he more means, exclusive for the forseeable future at time of release, rather than to this day. Otherwise all the main Super Mario games before Sunshine would no longer be eligible if it was of all time.
