I think Splatoon is the shooter Nintendo needs. It oozes charm, has great unique characters, and innovates on how shooters are played. (Granted it isn't military or first person.)

As for a straight up military fps? No.

The only exclusive FPS to really make it big is Halo. Sony have tried with Resistance and Killzone (TPS) with moderate sales success. MS have also tried with some TPS like Crackdown and Gears of War. Other than that there are only multiplatform games like Battlefield and Medal of Honor that can sustain the development costs.

On the Wii U? Not going to happen. The period for large scale games being green-lit for the Wii U is likely over. Even some planned Wii U titles are probably being pushed back to the next console.

Also, who would Nintendo hire to build them a western military FPS? Anyone at that level would likely make a LOT more money putting a game on the PS4/XO and is likely contracted to a big-time publisher. No, Nintendo would have to build a new western studio--which, actually, they should have started doing a long time ago. Sony is at the top right now because they realized long ago that the future of home consoles depends on games developed by western studios.

If it were me, I'd look into making a new co-op FPS game in the same mold as Borderlands. That IP has been a huge hit, it doesn't depend on photo-realistic graphics, and it has good humor and great characters. I think that would be a better formula for a Nintendo console.

Of course, not of this is likely to matter, as Nintendo will probably continue to ignore western game development.

I know its been said, but i have to mention Devils Third. It looks to have a very deep online mode that's full of content, and a decent campaign with nice shooting and 3rd person elements. If Nintendo can keep funding stuff like DT, Bayonetta and Hyrule warriors, i will be a happy man.

Well the military shooter is dying, but that would be a step in the right direction. Microsoft has Halo and Gears of War while Sony has Killzone. If Nintendo could fund a similar effort and give it a AAA budget, they would benefit greatly from it as a good first step.

But the emphasis on it being just a first step. They need far far more than just one AAA shooter to get that kind of audience.

I don't think Nintendo can quite do these kids of games, nor they want, nor I want.

Why not acquire a 3rd party to do that? Maybe create new studios while their at it. Hire some indies, ask some veterans of the industry (already retired) if they'd like to join, heck, make their own studio for the young and still learning new devs.

My point is, Nintendo has to expand and increase their employee number to work on new games, not use existing workers. Let those do what they're used to do.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

I think it would help alot, but I would probably not buy it. Not really into those kinds of FPS games

No one would buy it, casuals already got Halo, CoD, and Battlefield to keep them busy, even if they were interested in the game there would be a $300 pay-wall that would prevent them to get it. If they were going to do that, they would need to wait until their next gen system so that casuals have a reason to get it over an X2 or PS5.

I disagree. For example, what if, Destiny had been published by Nintendo as a new 1st party IP instead of by Activision? The exact same game (well, homefully better under Nintendo's supervision), only it was Nintendo who hired Bungie instead. That is the kind of game Nintendo needs to be making. AAA western IPs with a wide appeal.

And so many Nintendo fans are against it because they wouldn't be personally interested in it, but that doesn't matter. Nintendo needs non-Nintendo gamers now. They need to change the definition of what it means to be a Nintendo fan to include people who like those games. I personally think TLOU is extremely over rated, but I'm the first person you'll see backing the company if they ever formed a western studio to make a game like that.

Ironically, Nintendo needs to seriously widen their demographic. Not by halting their developement of current Nintendo IPs, but by adding to it with new IPs what appeal to the audiences they're missing.

Though I do agree what it's too late for the Wii U. They should focus it on their next console, but since I think that console will be out by 2016, it'll still be competing with the PS4 and XBO.

I don't think they should waist money on crap like that. they should instead invest in something new that might become the new big thing. there is way to much crap like that out there anyway and people have chosen those so why would they buy in to a new game on a different console?
