Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo will become obsolete

Depends how you define obsolete. Some may say, having only 10% market share makes them obsolete.
Let's just see what they do with their next opportunity to screw up. Nintendo 3rd Party is only a matter of time.

You sure they'll screw up? They're watching this thing play out just as we are. I'm sure their not happy that they're forced to project the awful numbers they've been posting compared to last-gen. They aren't idiots.

Then what did they do the last time when creating a new console? Certainly not recognizing where things are going.

The only thing they can do now is trying to catch up to PS4/X1 in power and 3rd party support. Do you think they're ready for that? And even if they go that route success is not guaranteed.

They're fighting an uphill battle right now. Nothing that can easily be turned around.

If anyone, Sony and Microsoft should go 3rd party and bring their games to PC (for those who care for their games).

if they ever go third party the phrase 'third party' will (by that time) no longer mean anything, certainly not what it means today. because there will be no first party software either and the distinction will be moot (all digital, no dedicated hardware).

"play smash bros on your tablet, you got it!"

Disgusting

"Play your pokemon MMO on PC done deal!"

Awesome

But I doubt it will happen anytime soon if ever... Probably never

QFT.

The only games I could stand on tablets or smartphones up until now are arcade racers (but EA half ruined that too with its policies, and Drag Racing is making the other half fade away with an unbalanced round I cannot win if I don't buy a particular car that I'd rather not buy, as it's the award for that round victory anyway.).
OTOH Pokémon, like almost any awesome RPG, could be awesome on PC too, even more a MMO version.

As someone who is new here, are these threads common? Like there weren't any Nintendoom threads for a while, and now it seems like there's been a baby boom of them. what up wit dis

Blame Nintendo for their bad decision making.

The gamepad wasnt probably the best decsion, but nintendo has also made good choices in the past,  perhaps you have not the article yet but nintendo has saved up lots of money in the bank ensuring them to stay on the console competition for some decades

"

Is Nintendo doomed? Not likely. Just take a look at how much money it's got in the bank

Fiscal projections. Capital budgeting. Shareholder investment. Yadda yadda yadda. Unless you like accounts and annual reports and stock markets and banks and all that, the world of corporate finance is really boring. But not today. Check this out for a completely not boring financial fact about Nintendo: Nintendo has £6.7 ($10.5) billion in the bank and, even if making big losses every year, that considerable nest egg would keep the company going until 2052. That's, like, 40 years away.

Oh, the often quoted article with bad math, which suggested that Nintendo's cash reserves (812 billion yen in March 2011) would suffice for 40 years, no matter what they do. So where are they now?

If Nintendo were still burning money like in 2011 - 2013,they would have had big problems within 10 years, not after 40 years.

Gladly, they have turned the ship around in 2014.

The reactions in these threads are always very telling, apparently the box that plays the games and the exclusivity of those games is more important than simply being able to play the games.

Uncharted on Tablets - what do you think?

I don't completely agree with this "the handled market is shrinking, there's nothing to do about it" dogma I hear everytime. Actually the maket of games played on-the-go has grown exponentailly. Imo both PsVita and 3DS are flawed hardware designs, a good handled console could cater to a significant share of the mobile market.

I agree with that and it bothers me that people so freely assume a shrinking market for handhelds because of mobiles. 3DS didn't target most of DS-owners, it did target PSP-owners. Sales are the result of this.
