There are two main characteristics for any videogame consoles; ones that are overpriced compared to what competition is offering and ones that underpowered. All the 8th generation consoles fit both categories. It's really hard to justify the pricetags of the 3 consoles when the last generation ones have big libraries and they're going to sell you only sequels anyway.

When we look at the most mature games this generation so far, they're already on the Wii U, as it has Wii Fit U and Wii Sports Club.

LMAO well I see no lies here

The above however makes no sense to me. PS4/X1 are the future of gaming, its not hard to justify there reasonable 399 price when they play superior versions of all of the games released this holiday/most of the games over the last 12month and have had majors exclusives over their predecessor in the last 12month (Halo MMC/Forza 5/Sunset OD/DeadRising/Killzone/Infamous/Driveclub), far better OS and social features and they are the only way to access 2015's major game line up (Dying light/Evolve/FFType/Witcher3/Batman/Devision/Starwars Battlefront/AC victory/The Order/Halo 5/Uncharted 4....) In terms of being underpowered, not in comparison to their competition (each other-PC is not direct comp), not respective to there price over their predecessors.

If you agree with his last statement I can't take you seriously anymore.

You mean the joke went over you're net :-p

Wii sports and Wii fit are  both notorious for appealing older/non gamers.

This is kind of an response to both...

All the time Sony's been in the business of making consoles, I've been in Sony's target group (according to Sony), the 14-35 years old male, until recently. I can say I'm officially grown out of the so called mature audience the games industry caters to - and my wife have never even been in it. The two games I mentioned, are there because they appeal to Wii-audience, meaning women and males above 35 (if we consider the 14-35yo male as a demographic). Something being mature doesn't mean the age rating put on the box.

Back when I was 13 (almost..) I started smoking, it was because smoking was so cool and mature. When I was 35 (almost...) I quit smoking because it wasn't cool and mature, and never was.

If I use Hollywood as an example, the "AAA" titles industry produces are like Terminator 2, the knockoffs are like Predator and when they try to appeal the masses they make games like Last action hero (I actually went to see it in cinema back in the day, LOL), then they make knockoffs of it that are like Junior.

Ironically, back in the day the Nintendo DS was released, teenagers were raging all over the internet Nintendo being for kids - at the same time their parents were lining up the gamestores to get ones for themselves.

It's no wonder the "mature" games today appeal to young people, as the political correctiveness of Hollywood is leaving a void to fill by games developers - in the 80's and early 90's there had been more competition coming from Hollywood.

There's also the point of view - if you're new to the industry "AAA" games, you're going to find them much more exciting than someone who's already "been there, done that", no matter the age. You can be someone from a new market area or a kid growing up and find your first "FPS's" exciting. But also, seeing enough of them results the not being seen exciting.

The reason why I'm calling the "hardcore mature" game immature is because the games in the genres having been more or less generic for the last 15-20 years. If you're like me and watched lots of bad action movies in the 80's and 90's, and played the, today "hardcore", games when they still were "new", you don't see the games as exciting as someone who's 18 years old. If you think Wii Sports and Wii Fit are not exciting games, you understand how I view the "industry games" today.

Improvements in hardware today aren't what they used to be back then - this is the problem in a nutshell: "superior versions of all of the games released this holiday". What's the point in "superior versions" doesn't that clearly state they're games that could haave been done with the old hardware? What the hell do I do with the superior version if I can have the good enough version cheaper. It's the ten year olds (I happen to know this from experience) that keep nagging they wan't PS4's "because PS3 visuals are shit and the whole console sucks", but their parents, who are in their 30's to 50's aren't buying it because it's so expensive and don't see the point in upgrading the console as the FIFA game is going to be on both anyway. Which definately supports the notion of people wanting superior versions of the game and that it's the adults who are intrested in the PS4 and not kids.

Looking at the history, there was a time when new hardware made new kind of games possible. New hardware made improvements in graphics, but first and foremost you had new types of games and gameplay. Going from one screeners to sidescrollers required more power on hardware. Platforming was largely made made popular when a suitable controller was developed. Street Fighter wasn't possible on the 8-bit home consoles and it needed a controller that had more buttons than NES controller. 3D games weren't possible before hardware that could run 3D graphics and a controller different from the D-pad. NDS was popular because it made new kinds of games possible, for the same reason Wii was exciting. This is the logic behind 3DS and Wii U, although even if Nintendo thinks so, the 3D doesn't make new gameplay possible and the Gamepad is a "DS @ home", so nothing new there really. Generally the hardware today is not exciting as it doesn't offer any new gameplay only "superior versions" of the same games; new hardware -> more polished games.
