Yeah, it's just insane that they could go from so brilliant to so hopeless in the space of one gen.

That's just...sad. They really couldn't think of something catchy for the U? In fact, it doesn't even have to be catchy, but at least let people know it exists. They seriously need to spend more money in this department, because although it's gotten better, it's still nowhere near how well the competition is marketed, much less the Wii.

I still run into people all the time who don't even know Wii U exists, but are well aware of PS4 and Xbone.

Nintendo are trying to drive up demand by limiting supply, a strategy that served them well last gen.

But yes, their marketing team needs to be fired, they are ridiculously incompetent.

Exactly what I was thinking. They did this with the Wii as well if I remember correctly.

Same. Nintendo needs to capture the casual audience again because Sony has done a fantastic job of hyping up the general public with the PS4. People are going out and buying it just because...it's the cool thing to do. Nintendo needs to convince the casuals once more that they are the cool kid on the block.

Official Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Thread

It would seem the definition of "Limited Edition" is lost on a lot of people..

The Amiibo and GameCube adapter shortages need to be fixed though. It's very likely they just didn't anticipate so much interest.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

I think this is not because of bad Nintendo practices, but because Wii U's low operating numbers. It makes over stocking and over production a costly mistake, so they prefer to have too little supply than too much supply.

Limited Editions are what their name implies; limited in stock.
I can go to my local EB and still see COD sp editions, Far Cry 4 sp editions, ec, to buy brand new. Sort of defies the whole purpose.

At least Nintendo sp editions are usually better priced than others (no way im paying $200 for FF Type 0 sp edition!).

But yes, Nintendo should make more, will in turn sell more.

As for the scalpers that resell them... I hope they burn in hell.

People tend to complain if a limited edition is widely available as it's not limited enough but then when something is truly limited people complain as they didn't get a copy of it as there wasn't enough stock so pretty much a danged if you do and danged if you don't situation.

Somehow Nintendo needs to find some middle ground such as ....

1. Making sure everyone has a chance at getting the item so that would throw out exclusives at non chain stores such as the Nintendo World Store as that was a scalper's field day.

2. Make sure the item is on the market for at least 1 full day as they would give most collectors a chance to get ahold of one.

3. If the item is exclusive to a certain store chain such as Gamestop, Bestbuy, Walmart ect... make a deal with that chain to limit the item to 1 per IP and credit card to make it much harder on scalpers.

Three simple tasks that could eliminate most of the scalping on these limited editions. As for common items like the GC adapter and Amiibos, that is just Nintendo dropping the ball as these could have been mass produced.

its not scalpers but popularity of nintendo. Just look at gamecube games and compare them to xbox and ps2 games how they are priced now.
For me nintendo was always too expensive to buy, their newest consoles and stuff is overpriced and even more so their old stuff on ebay because of high demand. Many of nintendo fans are also huge collectors in someway thats why they made ammibos in the first place.

Not to mention "Wii U" sounds like a 'DSi" or "3DS XL" or "iPhone 4s" version of the original wii.
