What do you guys think of pirating a game that wasn't released in your country, or is considered rare and the only way to get it is to pay into the hundreds? Personally I find both these reasons as legitimate, especially the first, because if anything it shows the publishers that people from said countries are interested in the game and would more than likely buy it if it were released there... it especially annoys me when games are released in the US but not in the UK...

But then for the first reason, I suppose the word "import" comes to mind... so that sort of makes my reasoning pretty pointless, right?

But you first have to hack your system to play them, most of the time. So you  already are crossing a bad line. Because of said company.

I'm sure modding a console isn't illegal, a lot of modding sites tell you at the beginning that it's only legal playing backup copies of games you already own and it's your responsability if you decide to actually pirate games.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Well, setting aside what the law accepts as legit, I dunno, if it's something I've bought and paid for in the past, and for whatever reason (extremely rare) I've lost the original disc, then sure. Other than that, I use not being able to afford things, to encourage me to save more efficiently so that I can buy whatever it was that I missed.

I consider piracy legit when I want to watch or play something but not willing to buy it. E.g if it wasnt available to pirate I wouldnt buy it anyway so im never a lost sale. which I think is the case majority of the time.

secondly and a bit more controversial, I thinks its semi ok if its available in another region but not out in yours for more than a month.

and lastly if something is old and not available in shops/online anymore.

moral of the story is companies will not lose money from me (stop wasting time trying to fight piracy).

All of the same cases where theft is legitimate.

If the game costs more than 1% of your monthly disposable income it's IMO justified (so if you make under 6,000 a month). There are more important things to spend the money on, but people should still have the right to enjoy themselves.

You should go steal a f*cking porsche. Thats over 1% of your monthly income. There are more important things to spend the money on, but people have the right to enjoy themselves.

I really think your post was trolling... you basically said anything that costs more than 1% of your monthly income should be stolen just so you can enjoy yourself. That is by far the most hedonist thing i have personally witnessed someone ever saying.

A porche is actuall a physical object and every car costs a huge amount to produce. By stealing it you're actually forcing the car maker in to a loss. It's the equivalent of robbing someones home. You're taking away. With games each digital copy costs virtually nothing to produce so you're not really stealing, theres no net loss. You're simply enjoying a copy for free. If you have a significant disposable income I believe you should pay for it if the game is good, because there is talent and work that goes in to development that you want to reward. But it's not stealing if you pirate because it's just some duplicate code that doesn't cause a net loss or net gain to the publisher. This applies to all software.

If me buying it in any format won't benefit the devs of the game, I feel fine about it. Like I think pirating a game from the gameboy color is ok, because the devs wouldn't ever see the money I paid for it anyways.

Exactly what is says on the title. In which ocassions do you think piracy is justified, if not beneficial?

When you own a game, but are too lazy to back it up yourself. When a game isn't available for sale anymore. That's about it for me.

None. Absolutely never.

If you pirate stuff you're a thief. It's as simple as that.

I'm not going to sit here and pretend my hard drive isn't full of copyrighted material, but I'm also not going to say I had any right to it. I stole it.

I gotta go with this. Thinking you have a RIGHT to pirate anything is entitlement in it's saddest form.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.
