Valve, id Software, and Midway had teams that would be considered indie level today

You didnt get my point, did you? All b.ig companies were indie at some point. My point was after consoles have established themselves as big game seller and when almost everyone were big developers (who expanded) Sony showed support to these small wanabe developers.

I don't remember Sony selling any homebrew games though.

Hahaha, that's because you're so young. :D

I was born during 1999, no need to remind me.

Bet with Xander XT:

I can beat more games on his 3DS than he can on my PSVita in a month. Loser has to buy the winner a game on his/her handheld Guess who won? http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=193531

My take on things? When a new gen begins, people are hungry for any new good game to play. The PS4 has the most users and people are looking for games to show off. As the library becomes more diverse and people do their usual thing, it will be harder and harder for games that can make a splash now to succeed.

It's been said that the beginning of a new gen is the best time for new IP. I agree. People are more open minded, now. Get in good now (Like Gears of War) and you'll have a fan for life. Pull a Lost Planet and people won't forgive you.

People are equally open-minded near the end of a gen, look at God Of War and The Last Of Us.

Equally?

Yeah equally. It just has to be a very good game, like the ones I mentioned. If you disagree, look at the sales of those two games and you'll know.

Sorry about the quote tree, mods.  I'm on the phone. :(

Yeah, those two games were new IPs at the end of their gen (GoW in 2005 but close enough) as well as TLoU but those were two highly acclaimed games from very respected studios.  At the beginning of a gen, even some modestly reviewd games get great sales and exposure.  At the end of a gen, a lot of great games get buried.

It can be said all gen long.  Quality doesn't always equal sales but early on, a new game like Carnival Games, SSX, Dead Rising, Devil May Cry, etc. is likely to thrive.  New IPs at the end of a gen have a tougher time against established franchises.

The developer of God Of War was not a respected studio before it developed God Of War. So you're wrong. A game has to be good and needs to have some marketing and it will sell even if its a new IP at the end of a generation.

Yeah PS4 will bring back AA gaming

A game doesn't have to be good or have any marketing and it can sell at the beginning of a gen si I'm right!

I think the OP is half right - we are getting a lot more innovative games than the last half of last gen, but it isn't because mid-sized games can succeed again, it's because Indies can now make Mid-sized games!

Think about it. No Man's Sky is absolutely massive and looks like a modern game, recent advances in programming and graphics have made it cheap enough to obtain great graphics that now even indies can!

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

Ehh... That was Sony's 1st party that developed the game. It was only their second title, but I'd believe Kinetica had largely favourable reviews, so I'd still stick with d21lewis.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Also some guy named David Jaffe had something to do with it.  I hear he was kinda famous.

I'm just posting from the gut, though.  I think I'm right and GTA thinks he's right.  I'm just gonna agree to disagree.
