The Kinect was created to compete with the Wii. By November 2010 a lot of the Wii hype died down, but it still existed. The Kinect capitilized on the Wii's downtime and sold a record 8 million in like 2 months and sold 24 million in 2 years. It was a pretty big success, and it capture some of the Wii's audience with games like Dance Central, Kinect Sports, and Kinectimals.
Microsoft knew what they were doing in 2010 and it paid off. But the thing is I have no idea what Microsoft was trying to do with the Kinect 2. They had no launch games for it, and have only released like 2ish games for it since launch (KS Rivals and Dance Central I guess). Gamers told MS they wanted nothing to do with Kinect so MS finally got rid of it pretty much.
Question is - if the Kinect released with the Xbox One instead of as a peripheral for the 360, do you think it would have been received better? If MS just released the original Kinect (with a little upgraded hardware as not to cost so much) with the Xbox One and released the games for it (like Dance Central, Kinect Sports and all that) do you think it could have been a bigger success?
I don't think it would have mainly because by 2013 motion control hype was pretty much over with. It may have captured some of the casual crowd with a fitness type game or something but I doubt it would have sold much.
