Forums - Nintendo - My biggest disappointment about the WiiU is not sales or games, it is that it was not truly Next Gen like they promised!

Well I don't know exactly what people usually qualify as AAA from Nintendo but as far as it's positioning, marketing and to some extent the reception / sales it got, SM3DW is certainly a big Nintendo game (AA vs. AAA feels a bit like the 2D vs. 3D debate so maybe I can call it a 2.5*A game).

I don't consider any of Nintendo's games to be AAA. Not compared to what the rest of the industry treats as AAA.

And here I thought that this stopped being a thing a long time ago -__-

So...next gen translates to graphics and design all of a sudden? Next gen is anything that isn't last gen. The Wii U is next gen for Nintendo so it's next gen to this console race. Stamping them with this "not next gen" thing is stupid. They're only one company, if you can do something better than Nintendo please, go on ahead and show us and that goes for any game company. People laughed at "The letter" but many of us probably don't know how the game was coded or anything of the sort. Be understanding. The decisions that they make, rest assured, are for a reason. We think that we can show them something they can't do, puhleeze.

Spurge, you never cease to amaze me with how many people you hook in to go along with your crazy rants.

Never stop drinking my friend, or whatever it is you do to get into the mindset of making these threads. Lol.

Constant source of entertainment 10/10.

I get that the OP is satire, but I must concur with what others have said here; Nintendo's overly conservative software is one of Wii U's biggest problems.

Games like Mario 3D World and Tropical Freeze simply don't wow people these days. They play it too safe. Your average gamer in 2012-2015 doesn't spend $300 USD on a HD console to play 2D  sidescrollers and a HD sequel to a 3DS game.

I love them, but Nintendo have their fingers in their ears when it comes to what the market wants, and it is costing them dearly.

That said, Sony and MS are hardly pushing boundaries either. This generation as a whole is a disappointment compared to the last, the lack of fresh ideas is staggering.

Either way I agree it doesn't compare to Galaxy, and I don't count WWHD as a killer app either, I just remembered that there was in fact a really good 3D Zelda game on the system, but the fact that we only have a WW remake at this point compared to Twilight Princess (cross-gen technically but still ultimately a big new experience on the Wii) says it all.

And yeah, I don't mean I expect Zelda U to "save the Wii U", just to provide another one of those great major games to satisfy the people who have already got the console and help it to actually chug along to the minimal lifetime sales that can now be expected.

2.5D doesn't exist, and neither does 2.5A. Galaxy is AAA. SM3DW is AA. It's a much smaller scale experience.

There are plenty of wii u games that have next generation graphics, mario kart 8, mario 3d world, forced, fatal frame V, etc. Just comapre them with some realtime shots of the best graphical games on the past generation like gta and you will see the difference in the LOD.

-snip-

I find it difficult to consider any of that "next generation graphics". It's obviously a decent jump over the PS3/360, especially in stability, but i consider it closer to the 7th gen systems (graphically) than to the X1, let alone the PS4.

I suppose my standards for the term are rather high though. After so many years of PC gaming, i don't think there are even many PS4/X1 titles deserving of the title (though there are a handful, like Driveclub, that exceeded my expectations for he 8th gen).

I should note i'm talking purely in the present. There's every chance future titles (like ZeldaU) may be able to sway my perception of the WiiU. I also by no means think current WiiU titles look bad (like i said, my standards for the term "next generation graphics" are just very high).

Wii U need bugs, framedrops, big boring 3d worlds, hours of cinematics, 10 year old kids yelling you online, internet payment, 30 fps standart and no innovation at all to be true next gen stuff.

Ugh. Bugs don't come from the consoles. Framedrops are either from being poor optimization or lack of power. Either way whatever the xbox one or ps4 have Framedrops with I doubt the wii u would even be able to run without toning the graphics down. Big boring 3d world's? Because yes ever 3d world is boring. Oh wait no it isn't. Tons of great 3 world's on xbox one and ps4. 30 GPS standard is a design choice. They could always tone the graphics down for 60fps but the developers decide to do that. Plenty of 60 fps games on both next gen consoles just like the wii u has plenty of 720p games. No innovation yet I agree, but wii u bringing Mario and zelda really isn't innovation either (great games nonetheless). I rarely have a child scream in a multi-player game. It's fair to have Internet payment when they have a better online and free games. I really like Nintendo but they're console is simply not powerful enough to be considered next gen  like ps4 and Xbox One. Heck they're not even next gen yet lol. But it's not cool to take jabs at the competition.

Ltd predictions by the time 9th Gen comes out

Ps4:110million

Xbox one :75 million( was 65)

Wii u: 20 milliion

Speaking as VGChartz's resident White Knight of Wii U graphics, even I agree it's closer to PS3/360 than PS4/Xbone.

Megafenix is something of an statistical outlier in his views, lets just say.

Yeah so N64 and psone weren´t on the same generation right?
