It is totally next gen when compared with the Wii. I use mine everyday, to play YOURSHAPE WiiU: FITNESS EVOLVED.

we can do some comparasion with the best graphical assets the last generation could offer(ps3/360) and the wii u and then tell if there is a step forward or not

GTA vs mario kart

ps3 gta 5 and 6

or how about a graphical game like alan wake for 360

xbox 360 alan wake in 960*544 30FPS with frame drops

wii u fatal frame V 1280*720(or maybe 1080p, who knows but likely 720p)

It's "next gen" for Nintendo though.

Wii U isn't "truly next gen". Right.

I'm going to go back to enjoying my games now.

My biggest disappointment is that Wii U didn't come out in 2006. We're always getting Nintendo games that are 5+ years behind in quality of what they could have been.

If only it was a bit more powerful (aka matching X1 or higher), it would be more appealing to 3rd parties and I believe the current HW sales would be at least 500K higher right now.

There is also PLENTY of 3D games.  Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2, MK8 , Zelda WW (remakes count) , Hyrule Warriors, Pikmin 3, Zombie U , Splatoon, XenobladeCX, Zelda U, AC III & IV ect.

And Smash Bros will never be a 3D fighter. It will have 3D models like now, but the playing field would and should always remain 2D.

You're confusing "next gen" with 3D. While I completely agree that Nintendo has a serious problem with the lack of AAA 3D games, instead pumping out 2D games and wondering why the Wii U won't sell, that has nothing to do with the Wii U not being "next gen." Is the Wii U was as powerful as the PS4, you bet we'd still just have gotten DKC:TF. Also, Mario Kart 8 is boss. Smash 4 is boss. Stahp.

But the fact that we've not gotten one new AAA single player 3D experience in over two years is unacceptable. The closest we've gotten are AA games like Hyrule Warriors or the infinitely higher quality Bayonetta 2.

Even though Donkey Kong 64 was complete garbage, you are right; why are we getting 2D games like Tropical Freeze when we should have gotten a 3D Donkey Kong that doesn't suck ass? Why will it have been three years into the cycle before we will finally have gotten a new Zelda game or Star Fox game or Xenoblade? Where the hell is the proper 3D Mario successor? Where the hell is Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem? Where's Metroid or F-Zero.

I stand by my stance the Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U are the only killer apps the Wii U has. Everything else is filler. After two whole years, that's absolutely pitiful. After two years, the Wii had Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess, and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. That's three epic single player experiences and two epic multiplayer ones. And THEN it had the filler like No More Heroes, New Super Mario Bros, and Red Steel.

Nintendo will absolutely never attain competitive sales until it starts making those types of games again. Leave the 2D stuff for the 3DS.
